Internet outages as of 5 minutes ago. Tuesday it was 10x worse as TWC/Spectrum had 90% outage of their entire system-- the all of TX, FL, Socal, and most of the northeastern seaboard were completely down all day. Recovery has been impacting alternate routing ever since then. Also, DNS servers, which update regularly, are busy replicating updates to systems that were offline Tuesday... so they are slower at responding to lookups (2 cent tutorial: you and I know "www.jalopyjournal.com." computers do not. They have to convert all that friendly stuff into addresses... that is what Domain Name Servers do.)

    Hello,
I am not a computer tech nerd nor do I have a degree in technology. But, our computers are not slow in So Cal, so far. One thing is that I constantly clean up my own laptop and home computer that has stored stuff that I do not use anymore. Transferring all of the extra crap that is no longer used daily, is transferred to an external hard drive. Whatever I am using has less than 50% full running, base hard drive for maximum efficiency.

The better the computer build, the faster the connection in most areas. If you have a fast computer, but are full of papers, photos, movies or just stuff, clean it out. Or, at least move it to an external hard drive for storage, not on your main use computer. Full HD movies take up a lot of space. If I need access to those old HD digitized movies, I hook up my portable 2 TB external hard drive. It is up and running with those movies to edit or send in an instant.

Most downloads of photos or movies do take up space. But, store it on something other than what you own computer uses for daily viewing. Ok, yes, sometimes the main server company will have a black out or short of some kind, that is inevitable. But for daily use, like hot rods, it is how well you build your computer and what it has that makes it go...

Your laptop or home computer is after all, your daily driver... My home computer was fast when it was made, but over the years, maintenance, like hot rods, is/was necessary to keep it up and running. Now, since my wife got her new computer built with the latest top notch stuff, hers is so much faster... Her new phone is the same, fast, better technology, and viewing is outstanding... Mine is a 4.5 year old that has speed and power and a removable SD card, so as not to overload the standard capacity. It is still ticking, so it stays for now.

My computer/laptop, well they are still ticking with constant upgrades and cleaning... 50% or less on daily hard drive capacity should work the best...Move the useless stuff to another hard drive if you have to keep it. "Back it up, Back it up..." however that goes.

Your hot rods and customs get the upgrades and changes all of the time. They do look nice here on the HAMB. But, your computer/laptop is your power use item daily, so that sh
ould also be upgraded and built to run...

P.S. I do have to admit that a few months ago, I was wrapped up in a bunch of family stuff. So, I let my daily, weekly, monthly cleaning lapse. I kept adding stuff and the laptop/home computer started to bog down and work intermittently. One good cleaning and it is back to speed and efficiency.

Things are back to normal tonight.
I'm using less then 10% of my computers capacity, and it gets "cleaned" every night. I notice slow pretty quickly. There are times (like the other night) where I pickup a lot of junk over the course of the day, and I was looking for some parts for my off topic ride on that auction site that day. It was less time consuming to post a thread then to shut down my computer and clean it, even when the HAMB was slow. I got several responses within a few minutes of posting.
    Thanks all. Gene
