^^^^The cannel idea is similar to one I had last night, the problem with it is the channel will cut into my leather golf bag (it'll chafe my willy)

I like the tailgate idea, it is what Vicki alluded to in an earlier post using the bolts as hinges. I would have to either make the door larger than the opening so it closes against something or add a channel to the wall. More complicated than I had imagined when I started out on this one.

is there enough room for it to slide up? like this, kinda... Obviously have to make your panel a little wider maybe, and add some channels on either side, latch on top.

Don't you have "golf towels," or whatever they're called?

Lay one over the channel - no more chafing! That's why we wear underpants with jeans. :D

Ni, I thought of that but my leather tool roll hangs from footman loops that are attached through the wall and into the steel cross bar. Cant go up. Neat idea though.

How cool would it be if I could build a plastic tailgate like this?

You know any local plastic injection molders?
To me, this would be more fitting.

Could 3D print that as well.

I’d talk to your interior guy because this has to be something he’s delt with before. My thought is over size the door and Velcro it on.

Design it so the over lap seams match where the upholstery seams would have been and it basically disappears.

My initial thoughts how ever were to make a leather strap hinge.

    Follow up thought.

If you Velcro it in it’s likely easier to get into with out emptying the trunk. Where a door swings only one way and needs room to open. Velcro would just pop off and come out lots of different ways

I did not consider this. I like the magnets idea, Velcro over time starts to look a little ****py. Snaps take too much pressure to close and open. Those 6 pound magnets posted earlier sound like a good idea on a oversized door.
