i stuck my spout in a can of trans'...........wait let me rephrase that.......i needed some type F transmission fluid for a '65 t-bird and i only had this old case pennzoil. reminded me of being a kid working at the gas station. any reason why this oil wouldn't be good to use?
Don't open those old cans! Around here the empty ones I've seen in antique stores! Sent from my SM-S320VL using Tapatalk
Yep, that was the way we did it. Then there were companies who went to metal top and bottom and hard paper sides. I halfway squished a few of them pushing in the spout.
i have a couple cases, never thought they would be worth any more than the value of the oil. these are the metal top and bottoms with a paper/cardboard sides.
Uh...'cuz it's Pennzoil? (good answer...ask anybody.) (an old friend of mine went from the 'pyramids' in the late '70s to cocaine distributing. He had a can of Pennzoil with a false bottom, distributed it in a cool '34 tudor sedan. Rode with him once...found out what, hitch-hiked home when he made his first sale stop)
I use old oil all the time with no bad results. I open them from the bottom then sell the cans to oil can collectors.
Reading your 1st line , made me think obscene thoughts. Once that passed I also did something i had not done in years too, I actually kissed my wife. just sayin' brasscarguy
I can see it now...your at the antiques road show with your original box full of empty cans...Well 33 unopened it would have fetched $500.00...since they are now opened the value now drops to $45.00...sorry I couldn't give you better news......Black Gold...Texas Tea... Those are the paper sided ones correct? I remember as @BadgeZ28 experienced problems doing that as well but the transition was underway to the new style.
I have some Type A if anyone needs some. Found these while cleaning out the back of my dad's 55 f250 last fall. They've been sitting in the bed for probably 30 or so years.
Ted, been using sears best in the John Deere and Quaker state 20w in the air cleaner using a spout like that forever. Dad stocked up on oil back in the 70s.
When I was young I couldn't afford one of those cool spouts so just used a church key. Open one side fully and rotate 180 degrees and just barely puncture a small hole. Put your thumb over the small hole and allow enough air to enter to provide good flow. I eventually did spring for a quality spout, still have it, about that time they went to plastic bottles. Story of my life.
Same thing when I was kid, used the Oly beer opener to punch triangular holes in both sides then pour in a funnel. Funny thing is when I cleaned my dads place out when we sold it I found two NOS spouts with the .99 price tags still on them sitting behind four cans of Castrol R 40wt. bean oil. I wonder if any of the ATF posted is old enough to contain whale oil?
