I have a 37 coupe, like the earlier grill and hood sides, the car has a big art deco thing going on and the 37 front end has more deco styling than the later 38...

I love the 37, I had a 37 pickup and 37 coupe when I was in high school. Got the coupe going, but never got the truck done. Sold them both in the 70's.
I wished I never sold them. A few years ago I began to search for another 37 truck, found a late 36, liked the grille even better on it, so I bought it. She's done now but has some OT stuff on it. Since I got it done, went looking for a 37-38 coupe, found a 40 instead. I like the 37-38 much better, but the 40 is growing on me. Good thing cause I'm dumping alot of time & cash into it. She will be done next spring. I would like to tow the 40 street freak with the 36 truck. photo (5).JPG

Definitely the 37 front end looks better. A 37 coupe was my first build after getting back into rodding.

    Vertical bar grille!

  11. I'm not a Chevy guy and think both the 37 & 38 make cool hot rods, some of you know more about the different features of these two cars and why one would be favored over the other but I like both of them. HRP

Had a 37 gasser and a taildragger, so yes 37. Wish I had the gasser back.

'37 is my preference, but I've owned one for the last 35-years, so I'm a little biased.

  17. ...I like 37's best but the upside down hood side design still bugs me...here's how it should have been produced...(not my car)

I am a little prejudiced:) I actually had a 37 hood and grille shell back in the 80's and sold it to a guy that I met at the swap meet for $25:) Regarding the dash there are inserts to replace the original instrument cluster (I think aluminum?). Back in the 70's when I built the car, wood in car dashes was popular so I used a piece of an oak table leaf and inserted SW gauges. IMG_0217.JPG

  20. I like the 38 grill but 37 hood sides, if I had room I would've bought this 38 a few weeks ago, I should buy a lift so I can fit just one more in the received_10211638917837231.jpeg car hole...ha Haha received_10211638917677227.jpeg

You can get ball milled billet aluminum dash inserts. I have one in my 37 now. You can also get engine turned stainless steel, which is what I want to replace it with.

I used to love the ‘38 and ‘39 grilles best. Then I used ‘37 hood sides on my hot rod I kinda like ‘37’s.

I favor the 37. It's like asking 35 or 36 Ford grille, the 36 always wins out and it's the same for your 37.

Having said that, the decision is your's and I wouldn't let the condition of your 37/38 grille/hood choices dictate which one you build. If you favor the 37 but have better condition 38 parts, find/buy some cherry 37 stuff and sell your 38 sheet metal and lesser condition 37 sheet metal to off set the cost. You should come out ahead.

Lastly, you could mock each one in place on the car and then decide. Lot better view on the actual car than looking at a PC monitor.

  28. I have owned both. I like the vertical 37 better, but only because it just seems to compliment the narrower front of the 37/38 design better. Had a 37 truck, 37 coupe (project, never ran), and currently have my 37 Ute and my 38 2 dr sedan. Either 37 or 38 are nice designs, especially with original grille. The aftermarket ones look like shit compared to a nice original.

  30. 37, lowered all the way around on a little rake street car. Race cars are like Heroin they take all your money.
