I think that you are just seeing the pattern made by the halftone dots that make up the picture for printing.
Dave Crook's 1958. Read about it here: https://www.customcarchronicle.com/custom-cars/dave-crook-1958-pontiac/
Dave was a great friend of my family and my fathers mentor. I will go talk to his wife Brenda and see what I can find about the car. Glad to see one of his creations being restored.
In reading this thread, I keep hearing about the 3/8 solid bar stock being used. At roughly 12 to 18 inches long ,placed closely together and 5 ft? Long, I would have to guess that grill would be awful heavy and would need a lot of support from the fenders. That problaly why it’s not there not, it fell out on one of the previous owers or got loose and they took it out. Maybe thin wall tubing would be the ticket? I know you may run into difficulties bending it without kinking it, but food for thought. Bones
Cool find! I'm not sure who published the little books your car was in? If it was Petersen Publishing Co. Everything was archived and you might be able to get copies of the pic's from the photo shoot. I was able to for my merc.
You know, I’m not a custom guy but the car is cool. I read the thread and really enjoyed it but what is really the part I enjoyed the most is that in just over 2 weeks we know who built it, it was in a few car mags, who wrote the story about it in one AND we have a guy that friends with the builder and knows the family. Damn, the HAMB is an amazing collection of talented people most not likely found is a single collective anywhere in the world, just amazing. Good luck with your build and I am subscribed to this thread. Cliff Ramsdell
