I posted that one awhile back in here or easier here: sedan Delivery and Panel Truck picture thread. Start at the newest and work backwards it wasn't too long ago.
DeLorenzo set the E/S=11.90 record in May 1965, with a 283/270hp, at ET=13.21. I'm trying to hunt down the MPH he turned with that ET. Any ideas?
Neja & Dissette circa 1969, R/S=21.00, I have 14.91 and 88mph class records. NHRA record 90.90mph end of 1970 in T/S=21.00. Pretty healthy for a 265cid "162hp".
Yes, a 265 indeed, I didn't look close enough at my own database. Thanks for catching that! I was thinking of their '55 and the 265 in there, but just saw the '57 and put "283". The last of the 265's. The 11.90 is the class weight break, Weight/"Horsepower". The letters like E/S etc change so much I always try to put the weight break next to the letters as the years get all mixed up. IIRC, A/S started off as A/S=10.60, but got down as far as A/S=7.00 by 1966. So just saying "A/S" doesn't convey much info. The number says it all, Wt/Power. Still looking for DeLorenzo's MPH that went with that record ET=13.21.
You are absolutely correct. Thanks for making that distinction. The class breaks shifted frequently and for many years did not follow an intuitive pattern so it is difficult to keep track. For many years there seemed to be an effort to place the currently most powerful combinations of each manufacturer in the "A" class, the previous year's "hot" performers in "B", and continuing that pattern down the alphabet. c
This is advertise as a new 245hp 283 direct factory replacement for 58-59 corvette. Has been tested on a dyno. Example of popular engine for jr stockers. It's on that guys list. If u know what I mean. Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Okay, I see what you're doing. You do realize that one could set an ET record and not get the MPH end of it? Back in the day, you could set a MPH record, without getting the ET part. This is no longer true. Frank Scarpo was one of Joey's partners, although not that early, I don't think. He is on F/B. He would be your New Haven connection.
I am trying to find out what ET-MPH Kempton was running in C/SA at the 1968 NHRA Winternats. His C/SA final win was a bye run (Platt didn't make the call) so that might be bogus, but say Kempton's semi-final or other ET-MPH from that meet. For that matter all I have on Platt's 428CJ is that it ran 12.62 at ??? MPH the month before. No ET-MPH for that car either at Pomona, and as I said it didn't make the C/SA final against Kempton. For such a famous nationals and the debut of the 428CJ its amazing, the story is everywhere but there are no ET-MPH to be found! Does anybody know or remember? Kempton's "bye" run might be in the results page but again that could be just a joy ride ET-MPH.
Neja & Dissette 57 wagon...265 162hp (would have been a 2 bbl)...were they allowed to run a 4 speed ??....or was the wagon after the rule changes taking away the 4 speeds from 57 Chevy's ? Never saw in the 60s....a 265 with a 4 speed in any jr stocker.....Must have been a 3 speed
I'm pretty sure everybody used a 4 speed in that era. NHRA clamped down on that stuff about 69-70..$ speeds, hydros in Delivery's etc. Too bad the video went away . I think you could have counted the shifts: https://www.nhra.com/news/2011/don-t-lift-until-you-ve-heard-referee-s-whistle
$12500 i guess it would be the next best option if your 245hp vette didn't have original motor. Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app

It looks like of the 6 factory 428CJcars, 3 were SS/E, 2 were SS/EA, and 1 (Hubert Platt) was C/SA. Decent summary here: https://www.428cobrajet.org/pomona But, no info on the ET-MPH that Platt or Kempton turned in C/SA at that meet. Such a classic duel - new vs old, well, "new" for 1968-1/2 anyway....
Thanks I did not know that. You only hear anout the SS cars. Llyod Bray and DG Gilliam here in Oklahoma had the one that Gas Rhonda drove for many years.
I recall that I paid something like $2400 (almost 5 months worth of salary) for a three-year-old 245 HP Corvette when I came to California in 1961. Three years later I paid $1100 for a '57 245 HP (with soft top only) and that one became my first race car. Ten years after that, I found an all-original 245 HP (w/original Powerglide!) '58 for sale by a private party in Alhambra with a $500 price tag. That was my daily driver for the next three years. Much more recently, I've heard of manifold/carburetor/linkage sets changing hands for over $5K. c
According to this article there were 50 of them. I know my friend owns one since new. https://www.hemmings.com/magazine/mus/2016/03/Company-Car---1968-Ford-Mustang-Cobra-Jet/3749503.html Pat
I knew of one (painted light green) in this area. That one was never raced but had been street-driven for years before I saw it. Of course, I live less than a mile from the original site of Russ Davis Ford in Covina, CA. I suspect that the count of 50 units is accurate but that would have included those that were raced in Super Stock as well as Stock. I attended the 1968 Winternationals and remember the Super Stock cars very well. Can't recall the Hubert Platt car that reportedly ran in C/SA at that event. I've seen a report that mentions it being run at Carlsbad, California during that time frame but I have no independent recollection of the car. c
