you would have to make the "screen and filter" tubes, then cap them with aluminum fence post tops/caps... they come anywhere from crude to fancy. HIH...
Mit these are aluminum elbows that have a 3"OD doesn't say what ID...I think the carb opening is 2 5/8" I have photoshopped the 9499 elbows on. You would have to run a shim inside to take up any ID issues if these would work at all. You could run the same height if you rotated each elbow slightly and you could run bugscreens at fwd openings as I have depicted. Hope this gives you a better idea. The height of the aft scoop is very slightly under hood scrub and may require a short straight section due to height above fwd elbow. Version 1 https://www.spectreperformance.com/search/product.aspx?prod=9499#customer_feedback This version has some straight pipe added on aft elbow to raise it above fwd elbow. It also sports bug screens at fwd openings. Version 2 https://www.spectreperformance.com/search/product.aspx?prod=8698
Got the fuel pump stand sorted out. Sectioned the back off to clear the stock firewall, affixed a permanent oil filler tube. Still enough room for the stock fuel pump rod to engage the fuel pump!
Some detail work complete. Wiring harnesses soldered and done, throttle linkage in, front cross bar/license plate bracket is complete, and I found my carb air intakes. The stack up of carbs, air intakes, coil, fuel pump stand, oil filler, etc., all fit, but barely. Cut down brake shaft used for front cross bar/plate holder: "Air cleaners." I was looking for simple unfiltered elbows as prewar/wartime generally filtered air cleaners did not exist yet except the thickstun or stock. These are elbows from the stock Model A zenith air filters adapted for strombergs:
Got the dash wired up. Was able to include an on/off switch on the 2gauge cluster for the dash light/gauge lights. At this point I just need upholstery and exhaust. Got a set of drive shaft pipes and flange plugs for what I guess you can call "side pipes."
Just a note; I learned the hard way that macs windshield glass only fits ORIGINAL frames. I also learned that it is very hard to buy a new frame with holes for finger pulls. Speedway and snyders are completely free of holes. Brattons sell them with finger pull holes AND snap holes, but they are out of stock with no date for resupply. CW Moss in Orange, CA had one in stock with holes for finger pulls. New glass has been cut, will install in a week. At that point, just need to have the cushions and hip panels upholstered.
Very nice a roadster, I love the color & all the details. Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Good point. I ordered mine from Brattons and kept waiting... finally 3 months later it showed up w glass. It was one of the last things I was waiting for.
Niiiicccce...hey Mit...What dia. are your rad support bars 5/16"...3/8" just curious I hope your out making noise with that...still some summer left...
Wow, this is easily one of my favorite A's ever. Its just the right amount of of original and hot rod.
Thanks much! I had originally intended this to be something of a "daily driver lakes racer," but the paint and interior is too nice for that. So it's kind of a hybrid I suppose. I found most if not all of the tech ideas here on the forum which was a HUGE help. The most challenging thing to find was info on moving the steering box outboard of the frame. A little old lady in a minivan gave me a huge thumbs up the other day and that's what I want to see!
I know this thread is from last year. I really like the style of your car. My 29 banger is similar, but I’ve been collecting AV8 parts. I really want to keep the mechanical brakes and positive ground 6V. How are your tranny mounts holding up? Do you have any better photos of the mounts?
