1952-59 Ford What have you added for safety features?

I drilled a large-enough access hole in my pillar and slipped the plate through the hole. The access hole can be below or above the plate location. I attached the plate with a piece of thin wire in case it dropped into the pillar cavity. Trying to avoid a go-fish situation.

The plates come with holes close enough to tap for a 1/4-28 thread. I drilled the .261 diameter holes in the pillar first and clearance for my attachment bolt (7/16 IIRC). Bolted the plates in place with grade 8 bolts.

 

I am going to try the Juliano's deal but in the back of my mind I wonder how bad that pillar will get fubar being it is not designed for large g loads pulling on it in an accident. I think it would still be better then nothing.

 

Well, most of the load in a crash will be at I'd say a 30 degree angle at the most, so the pillar in that direction is quite strong.

 

Here's my finished belt mounts. I had no decent camera at the time of the install.

 

Here is what I did for a safer and more enjoyable car:
1. Inertia Switch to shut down fuel in a collision or upset.
2. Engine shut down switch when there is no oil pressure
3. Electric Power Steering
4. Power Disc Brakes
5. Seat Belts
6. Quality Radial Tires
7. 12 Volt Lighting

 

I guess I'm going to have to go with seats with the shoulder belt attached, I've got a Victoria so no B pillar. I just don't want to replace the seats, '97 Lincoln Mark VIII buckets, both full power and very comfortable.

 

i believe this is in a 68 mustang, but the design should work in any convertible with a back seat. 3 points make it stronger use julianos instructions as a guide

 

Still a three point isn’t it? I considered the same for my Sunliner before finding the Sebring seats.

What I used isn't going to work well in 99.9% of 50's cars. 97Mustang. I really tussled with the idea of doing it because I thought it would be so out of place, but the rest of what I did with the interior I think pulled it all together. Only one I'd seen in street rods/hot rods for 3 or 4 years until this past spring's NSRA OKC show. 36 Buick coupe had one that he refinished white and it looked good. also 32 Ford sedan that looked totally out of place.

 

Yours look like it was made for your 57. Made by you I know. One of those interiors that sounds like it won’t work then you prove it does.

 

Hmmm. Interesting. I have almost the same seats ('68 Galaxie buckets).
