Trying to get some info about how availible, (or unavailible parts are if needed) and if this car is rare or not. How does one find out how many may have been produced? Do sedan fenders or other parts interchange? Do other year cars share parts?
Car is a 1936 Oldsmobile 3 window coupe

Thanks for any info you can give....Hagen

I think it would fall into the category of odd rods. It is an area where you need to rely on your skills and ingenuity more than the mainstream. This is due to less parts availability and not as an extensive a knowledge base to work from. I have respect for people who walk this path and love to see different cars out there. I bid you good luck. Have fun.

I'm not sure about the 35-39s but I had a 40 coupe and it shared some parts with other GM products I.E. the rear quarters were very close if not the same as Chevy.

The total production number of Oldsmobiles in 1936 (Sixes and Eights) was 200,546 (159,850 Sixes and 40,696 Eights). How many of those were 3-Window coupes, I'm not sure.

I'm not sure how available steel parts are for 30's Oldsmobiles, but I'm pretty sure there are a few places out there that can supply you with fibergl*** parts, if need be.

Your best bet for finding steel parts would probably be eBay, or trying to find a parts car.

If I come across a parts source for your 36', I'll let you know.

Talk to praisethelowered here on the board, he has a 35 Olds that used to be lowsprings, and I think a few others.

I have 2 Olds flat 6 engines, the one from the 35 and another 37. Going to hop them up for use on the lake bed one day. Parts have been very hard to find, but they are out there.

    Good luck with the build.

Doing '39 coupe. The front fenders are 6" longer and flat on top compared to Chevy. Rears look similar. I bought VFN '37 Chevy running boards and they fit like Chevy, flush to fenders. Olds have a gap there.

  8. Hagen, I love the '36 Olds coupe, thats a very cool body style. I have a '37 Olds Sedan. Some 37 parts will fit the 36, there are big differences between the six and eight cylinder cars. Parts are hard to find as far as body and interior goes. Ch***is parts are shared by many GM cars of the same year like Cadillac,Buick and Pontiac. Good luck

Sweet, I was looking at one of Ebay last week thinking it looked pretty cool, there are a couple of 34 sedans rodded down here and I think a coupe as well, I could/should have picked up a very cheap 34 sedan project recently would have thaught about doing a tudor out of it personally.

i just had a 1939 oldsmobile pretty much given to me about a month ago, at first i really hated the car and thought it was ugly, but now that i have gotten all of the mechanicals in order (the motor was rebuilt and only had like 5 miles on it when i got it) and bought some wheels and tires, and cut a few coils the car has really grown on me. the price was right though and the interior is perfect. here are some shots. i really like the coupes though and you have the base for a very cool ride, i dont know what your plans are for the car at this moment but i think a 303 or 324 rocket in it would really set it off.

I am building a '35 3-window. . . the only difference is that 35's have factory suicide doors and my dash looks a little different.

What do you need? I am always on the lookout and have stashed a few extras because when I see parts I figure I might be the only one that wants them . . .

    that body looks really clean!!!!
    good start!

as far as numbers go. . . I remember there were something like 5000 of mine made. . the thing is that the wood substructure has always made these cars more work to hot-rod so I would guess that less of them got saved over the years.

    a little more info. . .

35 and 36 olds are pretty much the only interchange

In '36 chevy made a master deluxe that looks similar, and 35 and 36 cadillacs look similar . . . but the running boards and therefore the fenders, are different. . . and the beltlines, grills, hoods etc are all different. . but in a pinch I bet that stuff could be modified.

34's are entirely different as are 37's

If you are looking for front sheet metal the only thing is that the hoods on 8cyl cars are longer than 6cyl cars. I have looked at a sedan and the whole front end looks the same.

have fun and keep in touch.

this car has been stored since the early 70's , (still has oil change decal from 1970, and plates to 1971). It was stored away dry and complete, having only a couple of dents in the front fenders. It seems to have original paint and absolutely "zero" rust. One owner had it stored till the late 90's when he past away, and the P.O. had it stored till this week when I pulled it out. The P.O. pulled the front sheet metal to test fit a 58' Caddy motor w/auto he had, but nothing has been cut or modified yet. The original flat 6 has a scored cylinder, but there is another 35' flat 6 that came with that was a runner. Interior has a few holes in the seats and door panels, but is still complete and in place.

    Wow!

I hate to say this but you might have a good candidate for a restoration if it is that complete and nice. I get kind of awed by a car that makes it 80 years in that condition.

. . . it doesn't sound like you should be too concerned about finding parts either.

I was kind of sitting back and looking at the car and figuring it would be great to see it back in pristine original condition, but it would not be my kind of thing to do. I don't know what the value of the car would be, (besides historical), if built as a stocker or sold to a restorer. I just found out that the P.O. still has the original radio for the car that he had not planned to part with but will, and other wise it is pretty much all there and in very decent condition.

That was 4 years ago when i bought it . Now it needs to go to the blaster again. Guess the tarp i used was,nt up to the winters over here. Anyone got a spare left side vent/flipper window.

that thing is in UNBELIEVABLE condition!!!!!!

    that is quite a find.

yeah, the radio would be nice but it looks like you have the clock in the glovebox door which is pretty hard to find in itself. . at least for 35's. . . i have been looking for a while for one.

I really can't believe what I am seeing. . . are you sure that car wasn't restored at some point?

From what I can tell it is original. Some of the paint is blistering on the trunk lid and top rear, and there is just bare shiny steel underneath. The odometer shows 09700 on it, but by the wear on the gas petal that would have to be 109700. Can't see it having any more then that, the sill plates on the doors still have their painted pattern on them, bumpers are all straight but have surface rust, original rims with what look like original hub caps still there.
I'll take a few more pictures.

I've got a '37 Olds six cyl two door, serious rust bucket but it was cheap-$150. When I get to it the plan is to z the frame, chop it, and stick a 240 Ford six with three carbs in it. Just need to get the '31 Chevy coupe on the road first.

Cool car, I am building the same 1935 Olds 3-window has a rumble seat too. It is running a 324 rocket with a Jet-a-way trans and 56 olds rear end. Almost done, about a month away. Bought it when I was 14 and still have it, still working on it too.

I was told that the sedan rear fenders are different. I don't remember if it was just a filler neck location thing or something more. Do some comparitive observation of the pics on Carnut. I'd swear I saw a third grille type on there but the guy down the road with a 35 conv says there were only 6bar and 8bar grilles to tell the models apart. You have a Very nice starting point there!

my buddy chuck is building a 35 3 w. he's going for the taildragger/westergard custom look. It should be pretty sweet when he's done. I know he had a real hard time finding the grill. he was saying they are pot metal.
PraiseThe Lowered, yours looks cool too!

I was looking around my neighborhood last summer and happened upon a 35?? 4 door sedan behind a guys garage. He said it was the only year sedan that the rear doors were suicide doors. Not sure about that, but the car was pretty much all there. He told me he hauled it home from some guys pasture 25+ years ago and never got around to working on it. Just built a lean-to roof over it and stacked his junk on it. He told me it's for sale but did not mention a price. It would need a lot of work from what I could see, but the only thing MIA was the front bumper. If any of you are interested I could sniff around and see if its still for sale or if its still there. Any takers???? PM me. Oh yeah, all your guys stuff is lookin real good too!

built a 36 2 door sedan in 1986---never did find a perfect grill---nothing interchanged from a chevy--put a nova clip on the front--was very easy--only repro parts I ever found was rubber and running board covers--caught a lot of flack about it being an oddball car---made it even better
