Technical ***September 2018 Banger Meet - 4 Cylinder Equinox***

Discussion in 'Traditional Hot Rods' started by Jiminy, Aug 31, 2018.

  1. This will be my first time for the Hill Climb, meeting my nephew and his wife at the Holiday Inn in Golden. Anybody else staying there? Where does the h.a.m.b. group hang out?

I am glad you are able to make the event. My wife booked us an apartment right off of main street in central city. I don't think anybody has organized a HAMBer meeting. maybe one could be organized. Friday evening might be a good time. I have just ran to fellow HAMBers in the parking lot at the start of the hill. I also have to look and see when the Deluxe Speed shop and precision desings are having their open houses. there is usually a Hop up party Friday night somewhere too. I am not sure of the deatails on any of those things.

DSC_0616.JPG DSC_0620.JPG Anxiously awaiting reports AND pics from 2018's HRHC!

This is the extent of the local (Tunbridge/Royalton,Vt.) Banger work fleet.

(and, for one who's computer-deficient, how do I get my type above my pics?!)

  6. Does anyone know anything about the Miller Denver head? I'm looking at an estate that includes a car that has one on it. I probably would not keep the car but would keep the engine. Thoughts or opinions on this head?
    Thanks Fellas

  10. Very first day driving the new find. Yes its a "B". plans are to drop it, not chop it, big and littles, header simmons power head, burns and dual 97's or 81's... which ever run better. Mallory distributor. IMG_0283.jpg

** amazing find !!! I had one when I was a kid & did not know what I had . that's one you don't want to cut up . your idea will be killer ……….. great car !

  14. I had one on a Model B..It was alright when run at normal low speeds; say under 3 or 4 thousand r.p.m. But at higher speeds in broke! Mostly at the valve guide bungs. Not the most "Egineered Piece" I'd ever seen! One of my engine builders fixed it; but told me not to run it hard. I sold it to a "Hot Rodder" who was going to run it on the street for $2400. That was about 15 years ago! Just saying!

  15. Thanks Old Dawg. Good to know its already on the car so I know it "works" I guess the old man put lots of cross country miles on the car. I assume with this engine. My cars are all street cars although I wouldn't mind my speedster having a bit more GOW. I'm still trying to decide if I'm going to pull the trigger on this buy

Ok changed fuel lines and throttle linkage and ran the cam in last night. Tonight re-torqued, checked timing and put some miles on her til it got dark. Two straight pipes dumping under the axle Wow is it loud. I dig it but guaranteed to attract unwanted attention. I'll sort that out later. Tomorrow night re-torque, change oil, put the shell on, adjust brakes and get ready for Hill Climb!

IMG_20180912_093853550_HDR.jpg IMG_20180911_173057496.jpg We are at the KOA in Central City. Took a drive down Virginia Canyon today to Idaho Springs....had ice cream for lunch.
The OHV banger is running great but it is a workout for it up at 9700' elevation. 7 and 8 percent grades too.
I'll post banger stuff as I see it.
    Cheers

Have a question, do any of you run a phenolic spacer under your stromberg.
I am running 2 81s and had mine shout off after I pulled a hill and had to give it some time before I could get it to start.

Running two 97's and I have no trouble with heat or vapor lock. But in the winter I have problems with frost forming on the intake.

What are you running for a fuel pump / regulator? What are you running for ignotion and where is the timing set?

The OHV in the yellow pick up is running a 97 as a primary, and two 81's as secondaries. It also does not have any problems with heat, or vapor locking.

Left Cheyoming this morning. Car did great coming down. A bit of overheating but I am running a 2 row stock radiator. Cruised down to central city across the plains and up into the mountains. My friend Slade drove his I6 powered speedster down with us. More banger pics coming as I see them.
