Hey guys, I have a CHEVY small block ZIPS water pump riser without the built in alternator mount. Anybody out there know of an ALTERNATOR MOUNT that works with this ? I CAN'T run a low mount alternator off of the front motor mount holes. I need to mount it high. I have heads with factory holes I can use (NEEDS TO BE DRIVER SIDE MOUNTED) If you know of a source, brand supplier or part number for a mount please POST or PM an answer. THANKS, Joe
Is yours cast iron or aluminum? I just cut off the "ear" for the alternator on mine, but mine is cast iron. Too bad, we could have traded.
If yours had been the cast iron one, you can have the mount i cut off. But, this one wont help you out. Sent from my SM-G900P using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
It has to be unrelated to the water pump as the riser is thicker at the top drivers side water pump bolt. It would need to be all head connected bolts. I also don't want it any higher than necessary. THANKS, Joe Are you running an alternator????
use a bracket for a 67-72 chevy pick up bolts to front of drivers side head although probably wont work with hood sides...
I know you said you didn't want a low mount, but this is how I bypassed the need to cut the ears off my alternator, a Ford Motorsports part, I was sure it would fit but then I pinched the rails 3/4" each.
DDDENNY < >Actually I do want a low mount but someone has "boogered" up my lower front mount hole (the one for an early small block motor mount) so bad I can't use it for a low mount alternator bracket.) Motor is in the car and I can't get a drill in there to drill out for a heli-coil. I wanted the alternator out of sight but now trying to find a "head" mount to place alternator up higher.
Never tried to hide its pedigree (or lack of) but my car has a total of two Ford mfg. parts, the alternator and the nine inch rearend housing.
Then put a stud in the hole. I made my alternator mounting bracket to pivot off the upper front hole. The adjustment slot uses the lower hole with a solid arm from the normal adjuster ear to the upper water pump bolt. This allows the alternator to slide up and down the side of the block as you adjust the belt. There is also a brace that goes back to the motor mount bolt on the block with a slotted arm to the back of the alternator to take some of the stress off the two front bolts. Sliding the alternator up and down the side of the block probably won't work with a hood.
THANKS for all the tips and replies. I think I've got it fixed . got a tap in there and a helicoil >although the first couple of block threads were over sized when I got the motor it seems to be holding good. THANKS AGAIN, Joe
I just saw this today and appreciate you letting me know, I received a PM from another gentleman from B.C. within 5 minutes of my post offering me the parts I needed, but thank you for the offer. HRP
