Awesome build just read from the beginning to now while my wife nags for me to come to bed. always loved your beater wagon so i knew this was going to have the look. Inspired me that maybe ill finish some of my over due projects.
As said before he’s right , wherever it was used it will shrink and expand and if there’s bodyfiller on it it will eventually lift and bubble.and it doesn’t take long to happen I’ve seen it many times and used every different way to avoid fully welding a patch but all the results are the same. It will be fine. And if it's not, you guys will be the first to know. The paint is PPG Deltron DMD1683 Basecoat Black, looks like a few of PPG's SEMA cars use it.
don't know if you've found the T-bars you mentioned, but give Firm Feel a call. they can probably set you up. you all are doing a fine job bringing this back to life
We decided to pull the power swivel seat out of the back room and see if we could get it to work in this car. We took the seats off the base, and coaxed the seat mechanism until it would finally go back and forth, up and down almost reliably. Then we yanked the stock bench seat out of the car to see if the swivel seats would fit. After a little drilling and a whole lot of sweating, they're in! I just love this goofy Jetsons stuff. These seats are rough and ugly - not to mention smelly - but they are pretty cool!
It's a '59-61 Chrysler or Imperial seat, but I'm not sure which year or model. I got it as part of a deal I made years ago.
I don't think I mentioned it, but the plan for the interior is to use the seat materials this car was coded for, even using the stock patterns. The seats will be a silver-gray vinyl with 'black jacquard' inserts. Samples shown below (I haven't gotten the materials yet). Carpet will be black Trinidad which I do have. I still haven't nailed down the materials for door panels yet, but it won't stray too far from original. added a picture of an original interior just to give an idea of what the seat patterns will be
Ha, exactly what I was thinking. I temporary'd up the Mexican blankets on the buckets so the wife doesn't get covered in that broken down seat foam.
That's gonna be such an awesome interior. Of course you know, but that Trinidad is getting way hard to find. I tried to get a hold of some, but I guess the last run of repop stuff is now out of stock too. Waaaahhh!
Thanks, Doc! It was impossible to find for a few years, then when I asked SMS about availability one day - and they had some - I pounced. I took the car out on Saturday to The Invasion, a pre-'64 show in Dallas. I haven't seen much coverage here but it is a pretty cool (small) local north Texas show. I'm adding a picture to this thread because it's my dad's Cadillac and my Chrysler parked together! And a couple of the car after I cleaned it up the night before.
What a fantastic build. Equal parts: technical, custom, resto, dad/son project, top quality work yet not obsessive ( a little filler is actually OK) -and a driving video!!!! THANKS.

Just a quick update. Been driving the car and getting all the mechanicals dialed in. Its driving great! I was thinking it needed trim around the rear wheel openings, so I photoshopped it with and without them. Its definitely better "with" so dad and I bent some up for the car. Interior materials are on the way, and I'm making arrangements for chrome. I'll be taking it to Pistons and Paint next month, then it will come apart for all the shiny stuff.
