Boy does this photo conjure up some fond memories!
When I was a kid in the early sixties there was another kid not far from me that had a go-cart and I'd go over there whenever I heard that McCulloch fire up.
Man was I envious, always wanted to go to the track with them but my folks wouldn't let me because they just knew that wouldn't be the end of it and were sure I'd start pestering them for one of my own, they were so right.
Apparently they softened up a little because they let me buy a minibike from the guy that ran the local NAPA machine shop, guess what the engine was, yep, a McCulloch Mac 10 go-cart engine, I told my folks it was a chainsaw engine so that was a pretty easy sell.
That minibike was a rocket, my friends with B&S and Clinton powered bikes couldn't come close to keeping up with me.
I never forgot the good times that I had from those days I guess as when I was in my 20's I started racing 125 shifterkarts (with a K).

It's not a McCulloch because their carb was mounted off the side of the crankcase.

My Guess is an Iron Horse "D-400" 2 stroke lawnmower engine [they had the carb opposite the cylinder]

RHD. This is Ian "Red" Dawson’s Willys coupe that raced in the late 1950s until the mid-1960s in New Zealand. Powered by a '58 Chevy 283 engine with 2 x 4 barrels [ Rego # CY4976 ]

here's a photo of it in action

This is believed to be the same car with a different front clip.
It is now undergoing a restoration.
