Ha ha, Yes I have heat in the shop. Being a carpenter I know a few h.v.a.c. guys, my heater was a 80% pull out from a job and I did a bit of trade labor for it. I hope it makes it through the long winter. 19 degrees this morning and its only Oct 15 ARRGGGG!!!!

I'm not sure how I hadn't seen this thread, until you posted a pic on another thread. I immediately went investigating, have been reading for 3 days now. Wow, unbelievably cool.

Thanks man, Well if you read for three days you know I'm doing this project with as little help from friends, design as I build, spend as little money as I can and use as much cast off junk from other projects.:):D

I have been cleaning the rear end, spring leaves and rear bones. They will all get a coat of Bill Hirsch chassis paint. I have had good luck with Hirsch engine paint but I have a real problem with there shipping, $22 to ship a box just big enough to fit a quart can from Newark N.J. to South Dakota. And it took eight days from the time I ordered. IMG_3283.JPG

I used a purple scotch brite type disk a wire wheel and a shitload of elbow grease. After I got all the paint and rust off I use some metal prep that neutralizes whats left of the rust and leaves a white hazey finish on the metal. wiped the haze off with some lacquer thinner and then prime and paint.

Try living in Canada my friend. Probably triple the shipping, and triple the wait time. Plus, often a surprise when the brown truck shows up, looking for brokerage fees. That's for anything we buy outa the States.

Yes I know. I have been talking with a friend from Regina and I told him I felt like a Canadian with these absurd shipping cost. I guess they are making a bit of money on their product by way of shipping charges.

Got the motor painted. It's a real mutt now, the color is 39/40 Buick engine charcoal grey(from bill hirsch) When I built my 32 I painted the motor the same color, I had half a quart left over so what the hell might as well use it. Its pretty plain jane but thats ok with me. IMG_3301.JPG IMG_3302.JPG

Thanks again Stogy, I'm trying to keep it simple. No need to reinvent the wheel.

LOVE THE CAR!! exhaust would look best half way up between the top of the frame and the top of the tail Finn just my opinion!! also think if u put the Axel in front of the spring and mounted the spring to the longer front wishbones it would surely make the front view way better, of course what do I know!!

Thanks for your hot rod thoughts but both things you have mentioned are pretty much set in stone.

  21. I used the same Hirsch color on my 216 chevy 6. A few silver spray paint accent pieces and a copper colored valve cover that matches my dash and it looks good. You just need to pick the second color.

Its going to be pretty plain Jane, the only accent color will be semi-gloss black. I want the car to be one thing as a whole and not have one part that jumps out at you.

Did some work making an adjustable bracket to attach my clutch handle to the throw out bearing pivot arm.
    I hope it works. IMG_3322.JPG IMG_3323.JPG IMG_3324.JPG

Clutch handle, haha, that's f'n great. Makes me grin. Like everything else on the car, that looks to be a pretty clever piece of fabrication.

Yes, I think there will be a learning curve for the clutch:). I got everything put together last night and it actually engages and disengages. Should be entertaining hand clutching and shifting while your steering with your knee!

No problems especially on the curves...:D...I suspect your knees will be quite close to the wheel in that cosey space...so wedging them should be doable.
