John Foster's tub that took me about 35 years to track down after seeing this small picture of it in a 1978 rod magazine. Finally met John and spent some time crawling all over his tub. The blown flathead fired right up and purred like a lion.

Neat car, but it's not a Continental -- just a Lincoln.

I thought that the base model was just called Lincoln after the war, and that the Zephyr name was dropped. Unless it was a Continental, of course.

  16. Ray Vega tub with teaneau cover from Hopup article on kicking the rear frame to lower the rear. Being correct doesn't matter, being Cool matters, jump in that tub and ride around.

I think Vega's tub was one of Valley Custom's great projects. So different from their clean sectioned cars for Jilek, Dunn, and the Polynesian, but still beautifully integrated and proportioned. It's belonged to Tony Handler forever; I wish he'd do a faithful restoration to it,

  18. This is my favorite car in life, it was at my high school when I was growing up. I've had many big deal cars 3 Cords, a 53 Buick Skylark and a bunch more, but this is the one I like most of all. I worked with Clay Jensen, one of the builders of this car, I asked him how they did it, I was embarassed but I couldn't figure it out, Clay said it was pretty easy, we just moved the front fenders up 5", added 5" to the bottom of the fenders and took that much out of the hood . I'm working on a 39 Ford tub with 40 Delux frontend and will do it Maroon with the leather looking vinyl wiith embossed hand tooled looking caps interior. Has haunted me since I was 13, this Ray Vega tub.

I look forward to seeing your car when it's done!

  20. Agreed the Black on Black on Black doesn't have the same pop as the Vega version.

There are many other differences from the original. The whitewalls are too wide, ground clearance has been increased to the detriment of the profile; rear license mounting and '39 headlights rather than '40s. Of course it's Handler's car and he's entitled to do it as he likes, but I prefer all of the original details.

  22. Tony is a Rolls/Bentley/Ferrari restorer and dealer which may be why it looks more like a classic now and less like a custom. Me I like the original look best!

Are there any other pics available of this build. My son is doing something similar with a 30-31 roadster cowl and doors and a tudor rear body section on a '32 frame. Just getting started and haven't gotten into mating the roadster door to the sedan B pillar yet. Thanks.
