Still waiting on the upholsterer and in the mean time just chasing down loose ends. I did a bit more fabrication in the trunk, building and installing a couple of rigid brackets to attach the divider to. They are threaded and a 10/24 screw holds the panel and attaches the magnet that secures the door.

Of course I base/cleared the brackets so they look like the belong there. At the top I fabricated a couple of steel brackets that are secured with rivets and are also tapped and threaded for more magnets at the top of the panel. Having them threaded allows for the upholsterer to cover with leather on both sides of the panel and reinstall my magnets easily.

The inside of the trunk shows the door installed. I used the piece of plastic that I had cut out of the divider and riveted 2 inch steel around the perimeter for the magnets to grab. All with be upholstered and I will have a leather strap added to help remove the door so I can access the storage behind the seat.

In that last picture you can see the footman loops that will hold by tool pouch and the corner brackets I added to attach the quarter panels tot he trunk divider at top and bottom.
Here I removed the door to access the storage area, the magnets are visible in this picture. I am adding a couple more magnets on the sides toward the top and maybe one in the center. Each one hold 6 pounds so they are plenty strong enough to hold the upholstered door but the extra magnets will just make it fit tighter. All that wiring behind the seat is for the seat heaters and power port, they will be buried during carpet/upholstery.

There are a gap or three that needs addressing but I think the upholsterer will take care of that when these panels are covered. The trunk is pretty complete now and I can move inside the car to finish fitting panels.

Yeah, my knob. I got a new shift knob from Twister Shifter yesterday for the 442 that has my line loc button on it and a 442 emblem encased in the black resin...bitchin. They do nice work.

I did bring the clutch out quick the other day and those towel city tires tried hooking up, sent the car sideways and I would have steered out of it with the gas pedal except my patio cushion slipped out from under me and for a moment I was rather uncomfortable. Fortunately the cushions just hose off. I should have had my lap belt fastened, it would have helped. I decided I need to take it easy until I have an actual seat to harness my ass into.

Thank Tim, I think so too. I think it needs one more tweak, a hanger for the top of the door, maybe just a locator pin in each corner to help align it and support the weight. I am planning on having my interior guy add leather handles to make it easy to grab and remove, it will side behind the seat in a storage pocket on the seat back when not installed. @BURN OUT BOB suggested the seat pocket and I concurred.

 

So I got a call from the upholsterer and it seems my turn is next. I have been working on little stuff in the mean time like that golf club door in the trunk, door pulls, etc. One item, while the hood is off the car was to build the matching right radiator support rod,

I had bent the left one to run around my fuel lines but really screwed up the right side one to the point I had to re-order on and try it again. Bending SS sucks BTW but I found that the tow ball on the back of my Silverado worked pretty well. I'm going to leave the hood off the ar while it is at the trim shop so I can re-work the leather straps that secure it (I had never dyed the leather and one is a little looser than I like).

I can not wait to get an actual seat to sit in and get to put some miles on the car.

 

It has been a while since an update as the car is in upholstery jail. Never take your car to an avid hunter and fisherman if you are in a hurry to get it back. Luckily, I am not in a hurry.

I stopped by last night on my way home and got a pleasant surprise, the seat was done and sitting in the car. My iphone didn't catch the colors great but you get the idea.

Two tone distressed leather seat. My phone makes it look like velour insert but it is leather. Very soft leather. Seat heaters installed. The carpets will be brown square weave, he has already covered the floor in a jute over the top of my sound deadening. If it wasn't for the blower and QC it would be mighty quiet inside.

You can just make out that 6X9 in the side panel behind the door, they will be invisible once upholstered. The insert color is Irish crème and looks beautiful with the color I put in the dash insert and firewall. Very exciting!

I also ordered up some webbing samples and found a color that works nice with the seat insert

These people are great to work with. They sent me eight samples of what they offer in brown and tan at no charge. I will place my order once we figure out how much webbing we require. .

Disappointed about the seat insert being leather, I always imagined you as a crushed velvet sort of guy. LOL.

 

No crushed velvet... Black Velvet and coke maybe.

 

Interior updates. Those map pockets are pretty deep as they utilize a vacant expanse in in the door cavity. Plenty of room for flask...I mean sun glasses. Or as the British would say, American gun pocket. You can also make out the seat heater switches and power port in the center of the bench.

The upholsterer made me an extra floor mat to keep things tidy. Very cool shifter boots and trim around the pedals and dimmer.

I love the "rake" he gave the interior door panels. Sorry for the tilt wheel shot.

The trunk is exceptional. The tan insert is removable so I can put my golf clubs through. The tool bag Eric made me is featured. Eric is building my hood straps out of the tool bag leather as well. I hope he has a better year this next year health wise.

Behind the seat is just as nice. Upholstered boxes encase my wiring against the floor and beneath the top storage area. Again, the tan insert is removable to allow trunk access. When out the two panels slip into the large leather pocket on the back of the seat which is visible slightly below.

Top back on for the first time in years, I forgot how cool it looks up. I cant see anything when I drive it but I suppose it takes time to adjust.

Still have seat belts to web, and a few details to wrap up. I'll get better pictures once the top is down and sun comes out.

Wowza! Looks incredible. I was just lamenting that I didn't get the top done on mine, even though I had all summer to do it. Once I start driving, it guess it's as done as it's gonna get...;-)

Your car is on the verge of perfection. Makes my stuff look like, well, what it is: A POS.

 

It runs pretty good too. I ran it up to 70 on my way home, felt pretty good. You can sure feel the other 2 Stromberg's light up when you press the pedal. Just a bit of touch up and final details then show time.

I like top down driving but look who I'm talking to, your t-bird doesn't have a roof either!

That battery box was a fun idea and looks cool in the finished trunk. I appreciate the compliments. I only sold 3 cars to afford this build!

 

I only sold one, but I'd had it for 44 years.

 

Spent the afternoon today putting the radio box back in. A lot of odds and ends to reassemble. Going to be raining all week next week so no seat time. Tis the season.

Tight, like a tiger. You will see it running around town next year and maybe at the PRS if I get her finished up nice and tight.

 

Ok, for all the naysayers that said I can't get my sticks in the hot rod.

If you build it, they will fit.
I also got the seat belts back from the upholsterer. Safety was never meant to look this cool
