Yes, they seemed to. We had one in our club. At that time, I found that the 57 2dr wagon ran the same class. I started on one, but Uncle Sam called, and I never finished it. I always wondered why we never saw another one. 4 speeds were allowed in all, at that time.
Ronnie was a great guy and one hell of a racer. As well as the Pontiac he also raced an Olds 442 C/S in later years again with sponsorship from Bob McLaughlin. Late in his life he ran an upholstery shop in Porterville, his long time home. I met him while researching for my Retro Rewind feature in Traditional Rod and Kulture magazine and was surprised to find that he was Butch Leal's cousin. If you read the copy in the Champion ad you will notice that it mentions H. L. Shahan who also partnered with Leal as well as his then wife Shirley who in 1965 was the first woman to win an NHRA eliminator category. The new drag tires from a March 1964 Hotrod. Also in the same magazine is an ad for the Bucron tires that were also used for racing at this time.
I think Gus Phillipich might still be racing in Div. 5. His engine builder back then was a gentleman named Warren Johnson. In the story it says he once owned J Stahls 56 wagon.
FYI, Reynolds Buick/GMC is still in business in the same location. They celebrated the centennial mark in 2015. I'm not sure if the Reynolds family is still in control but the name lingers on. c

Yes Vanni Brothers were well known in the greater Hamilton area. They had a Sunoco Station on Hwy 6 as it says on the door. It was a little down the highway from the village as I remember it. The building is still there. Mount Hope is basically suburban Hamilton. Which is still a steel mill town. I think they moved to a new building on Hwy 56 at an intersection called Empire Corners. Seems they were only there for a few years. Building has been empty most of the time since.
Chevy Boys just rubbing it in LOL. I have seen several wagons and sedans with the 312 but it's nice to get a real Sedan Delivery. EDIT: Had some time so I searched the Vanni Bros, all kinds of ways and boy Vanni is a VERY popular name in Canada. No other pics or info found. Tried searching the photo and it came back with a match with Richard Charbonneau's Ford wagon stocker LOL.
Bobby Warren was driving this car at the first points race they every had in Gainesville in '69. Back then the final was wide open, first man there wins. We ran in the final and when I went to high gear I think he was on the return road heading back to the pits!! Jimmy Parker, Stock 2154.
