    WOW WOW WOW
Where did you get this photo from knuck?
My eyeballs are still bulged out, would you believe this spot is from my earliest childhood.
It's just up the canyon a handful of miles from my hometown, I went to grade school with the son of the family that ran The Gingerbread House, he took the business over from his parents. This place is quite famous, at least here in Oregon as it is on the main highway leading to some of Oregons most popular Summer and Winter activity sites, a major lake is further up the canyon where my dad actually helped build the dam in the 50's, my family spent a lot of time hunting and fishing in this area.
The Gingerbread House was always a "have to stop" place for burgers, drinks, deserts, etc.
It was the home recipe gingerbread with ice cream that put it on the map and the business was remodeled a few times over the years.
Boy this really hit home for me, thanks.

I saved that picture some time back because I was born in Oregon, left when I was one year old and have never been back althought I've always wanted to. I'm almost certain that picture came from a Facebook page "Vintage Roadside" hope this helps'
My parents traveled all over when we we're young, every once in awhile I see a picture of a place that I remember and it sure takes me back.

    UPDATE

    Hello,

This year, the day after Thanksgiving, we were normally accustomed to seeing the big giant Santa Claus statue sitting on top of the roof line of the Santa Claus Lane off ramp. The Southern drive home to OC has always been to go by the beach town of Carpenteria. Our history in Santa Barbara goes back to the late 50s and throughout the 60s, it was a cool place to stop and rest. This off ramp draws (or used to draw) tons of visitors, with the ocean in the background and the huge statue glaring down at everyone. The photo looks like it could have been 1960 and later. (4 door 1960-61 Corvair in the background)

The little enclave of shops and restaurants always used to light up the sky and be a happy encounter. This place has always been called Santa Claus Lane, but recently, it has lost its luster and attraction. The big giant Santa Claus statue is gone and is no longer a beachfront icon, seen for miles away. It still has the cute shops and diners, but the feeling is a little empty without that big guy looking down at you. (No, not that big guy)

The surf? Just north of this place is the private home section of Padaro Lane. The waves here are virtually empty as no one can see them break, due to the giant beach homes built all along this shoreline. But, they are there…perfectly shaped waves coming ashore during certain swells. If Rincon, just down south, is firing, this place is serene and great, same swell, same direction. Warning: parking is a problem and access to the beach is limited, so beware.

    Jnaki

Oh well, now, the place is misnamed as where or what is SANTA CLAUS LANE? It must be the little pencil top erasers and candy at the local stores and gift shops. A local roadside attraction bites the dust, again…AAAWWW!
