We're finally getting somewhere, my 4th pass on the new sticky slicks. This is with an early 1-2 shift and lifting around 1,000 ft. We fought the death wobble and traction last summer/fall. I fixed my death wobble with less caster, I listened to the dragster guys to much when I initially laid my axle back at 14 degrees, standing it back up to 9 degrees did the trick, it hasn't shook once since. I really wanted to stay on the pie crust slicks, but we were getting no traction and I couldn't get out of the 14's. We tried different pressures and it always felt like driving on ice. With this being my first drag car, I just didn't feel comfortable on them. I may try another set down the road when I have more driving experience, but for now the new 10 X 28 M/T's are doing the trick.

My 7th pass on the new tires. Still tuned to fat and happy at one to one on blower. Still have a little windage issue to work out, but we're getting there. Won my first race this past Saturday at Rock N Race at Dragway 42. Time to work on getting my competition license. Hope to be in the 8's by the end of the season!

  9. Congrats Jason!

Seeing the 'new' 42 puts a smile on my face. What a killer venue! I need to visit it one of these days.

It's my home track, only about a 1/2 hour away. It's great to have it back after being closed for the rebuild for a few years.

I saw your run on Sat. Rock N Race it a great event. I took my 14 year old grandson to see what real drag racing was all about.

  15. Cool build and it's nice to see it being driven "in anger".
Got any pictures of the interior?

Had a pretty good weekend at the Milan Nostalgia Drags. Great event, the place was packed. 1st pass we threw the blower belt on the burnout. 2nd pass was the best one, we lost our match race against the Carson Brothers, but they had us by almost a full second and . 3rd pass I blew the tires off when I hit second gear and got out of it to save it for another day. Next stop is the PID-Keystone Nostalgia Nationals to see if we can get all these 50-80 year old parts into the 8's! 71704575_10156576707611828_8412435013974360064_o.jpg 71536326_2356813064571970_7745326202339983360_o.jpg Milan 2019-2.jpg

Check out this cool video from Trent Sherrill and the new Speed and Custom a couple weeks ago. Honored to be featured at the intro and again at the 1 hour and 40 second mark competing in my first match race. It was stumbling off the line a little and smoking when decelerating, figured out we blew the intake gaskets into the valley in two places. Just installed some new Cometics and the problem seems to be solved.

Thanks @loudbang, you beat me to posting the Galot pics. It was a great event and a really nice facility. This was a new event put on by Nancy Wilson called the Hot Rod Shindig. Nancy was formerly the organizer of the East Coast Drag Times Hall Of Fame events before she retired. My wife survived the 1200 mile tow in my 65 F100 from NE Ohio to NC. We did loose a carrier bearing that was only 6-months old in Winston Salem NC, but luckily an O'Reillys only 1.5 miles from where we pulled over had one in stock, we'll be putting one of those in the spare parts I carry. We changed it in the parking while the two confused young counter guys watched on when I made an improvised bearing press with my Dremel and a newly purchased piece of exhaust tubing.
Otie's son Bill and his wife attended to receive a performance award at the Friday night dinner presented by the newly formed East Coast Nostalgia Drag Racing group. We made a few exhibition passes, got invited to participate in our first Cacklefest and won our class in the car show that I didn't know we were in. Great weekend, hope they do it again next year.

Found this really cool photo last night. Otie standing in the door in the staging lanes at Dragway 42 in 1962. 14231912_284030788649310_7217442899992149351_o.jpg

Found out something else that I thought was pretty cool last week. I had a guy contact me that claims the Beaver that drove the original car to a record in 1961 is John Force's uncle Gene Beaver. 72486355_815269175542701_7954021308952477696_n.jpg

Just recently found some Otie pics I'd never seen before on the Petersen Automotive Museum Archives website https://archive.petersen.org/pages/home.php They have over 2500 1959 pics and 1700 1960 pics for the Detroit Drags, awesome stuff. These are all of the same Chassis Research car that's in that cover shot.

Dragway 42. That house is still there marking the location of the old starting line, from across the road.
