Projects 33 Ford 5 window coupe build - 50's style

Hi Steve,
Am enjoying your build.
A question, what are those mufflers you installed ( July 23rd post) ? Have very limited room and need small units.

 

They look like Porter brand mufflers to me.

 

Got them years ago but I believe they are Smittys mufflers. Thanks for the kind comment!

 

Here are the 37 Ford taillights installed, and the license plate mount. No, this car is not licensed for the road yet, that is an old plate. The plate is back under the edge of the rear body lip by several inches, although the pic makes it look like it is right on the lip. Used brackets that are mounted under the floor. Now on to the glove box for the dash.....the generator mount...and on it goes.

Got the grill and headlights mounted. This is a 4 inch sectioned 32 Ford grill shell and insert that I have had for close to 20 years. The story goes that it was on a Model A roadster hot rod back in the 60's. Cleaned up the brazing a bit and a couple of welds and it was good to go. The insert is not perfect but that fits the style of this car. Still got some work to do on the rad before the hoses are connected to the motor.

 

A pic with a side view. Going to start with the stock 4 barrel carb and then go to a 3-2 set up.

 

What are you planning for the final colour Steve? The black and red is messing with me.

 

Ha Ha...then it's working, this is the final color!

Here is a 34 five window using the deuce grill. I have always liked the look of this grill on a channeled coupe. The pic was taken at Deuce Days in Victoria, B.C. last July. 2016 by Hamber Chevbucket.

 

Work is progressing on this long-time build. Updates will be coming soon.

 

John is doing some work on the coupe, including the wiring. He is Chevbucket on the Hamb, and if you check out a thread called "Old Hot Rod found", you will come across a video of John driving a T bucket back in 1959! He knows how to build hot rods, and is here shown holding the basic hot rod wiring schematic that was first published in several magazines back in the 60's. No wiring kits here, this is all done from scratch.

 

Those old headlights I acquired locally from Alan - he had them since the early 60's. This stuff is still around, we just got to look for it. Here the turn signal and park light are combined.

 

What a great build. Old time all the way. It looks close to driving...I hope..

 

John is saying "let's get this one finished and on the road!".

Thanks guys, yes the plan is to have a driving car soon. This project has taken too long, time to finish it!

Ron - just put the rollers back on the coupe while it is in John's shop. Still going to use the 15 x 5 and 16 x 5 wheels shown in earlier photos in this thread. John is doing some good work, I am lucky to have his hot rod skills working on the coupe.

 

Will use this bench seat from another 33 Ford coupe - a hot rod that was built locally in the 60's. Spoke to the fellow who built that coupe this past summer and told him about my old style build. Trying to use as many parts as I can that were once used in a hot rod built in an earlier time.

 

Give ya 10 bucks for it

 

It's gonna cost you more than that when you lose the Deuce Days bet!

 

That my Friend is a LOW BLOW. Maybe I can get John to help. Don't think he'd like the commute though.

 

Hey ss, just thought I'd chime in to let you know I'm still around. Your coupe is looking better each time you post. It is a slow process building these things for sure. You'll recall my build was 22 years. I'm with the crowd who prefers not to have a deuce grill, but that red 34 with that grill looks pretty damned sweet and I think yours will also. Mine is running just great and had the immense pleasure of giving Jerry Berg, Erick Berg, (riginal builder of the Northern Star,) and Jerrys Grandson a fast ride through the Federal Way neighbor hood this summer.
Stay at it, you,ll be driving it before you know it.

 

Boy that grill shell looks like it could have been made by the same guy that did mine in about 1952.

 

John and Keith should open up a rod shop. With their skills and energy they would do well. Now get back on your coupe, Ron, no excuses!
