20190120_110652.jpg I know this has been covered multiple times, but filter doesn't fit. I got this off eBay last year, just now getting ready to install. I got a 14 inch base from Speedway and a half inch spacer to clear the distributor. I searched the Hamb for the correct filter size. So I went to O'Reilly ' s in search of a filter with the filter numbers. They were very helpful but couldn't come up with one that would work. Tried AZ, guy looked at the air cleaner like it was a Flux Capacitor. Tried Advanced, helpful but no go. All the while in my head "4x14 just drops in", "K&N 3699 snug but works great", etc. My question is do I need to shoehorn this filter in and work it back into shape after I clear the opening? Did they make the opening of the cleaner with different size holes? Is it possible that some of the success stories of using the 4x14 air filter are due to the air cleaner not being an original but reproduction or vise versa? Do these pants make my **** look big? Any help will be greatly appreciated 20190120_110610.jpg 20190120_110724.jpg 20190120_110610.jpg 20190120_110724.jpg

Also, I want to use the Speedway base, I know some are just putting the top over a smaller air cleaner instead. But the base does have some slack as it is 14 inches and the Cadi Cleaner is about a quarter of an inch smaller. I went to NAPA, very helpful, ordered a NapaGold filter 46946R when I got home I looked up the specs. It's gonna be too big (diameter).

ZZ is correct, this is a batwing air filter--what he has is the plain old AC oil bath air cleaner that was used on several makes.[IMG]Nice to see someone knows the difference.

Contact a seller (there are many I've just looked) at "E" that sells those and ask them what number you need.

i would guess the repops are 14" wide opening maybe they copied an oddball version or they just made them bigger than the originals

Just get a ******** 10 or 12 inch diameter base and filter element like everyone does and don't over think it.
There is no reason to be **** about sealing the top off to the base around the bottom edge as it is just decorative anyhow as long as the filter element seals to the top of it.
With the filter inside sealing top an bottom it works just the same as any chrome bell type air cleaner like a Stellings & Hellings where the air flows under the lip and into the element.
I picked up a smaller base for the one I have hanging in the garage from someone at a swap meet or yard sale for a buck or two.

Here's a better pic, I also have the inner structure to deal with also, filter has to be slightly bigger than the cross section. When I see photos of these I don't recall seeing the ribbed section, they are normally flat or maybe they cut that part out, it's spot welded. 20190120_161310.jpg 20190120_161424.jpg 20190120_161639.jpg

i would take the top to your local parts store and fit it ther, the filter just needs to stick up a little, then trim down your bottom plate if it doesnt fit, nobody will see it, you can even leave a quarter inch around the edge and pie cut it and bend em up to emulate a standard bottom.

I don't think its a repo, from what I'v seen the inter structure would make it a Packard air cleaner. Plus if it were a knock off, I don't think I'd have this much trouble finding a filter to fit.

probably why people have issues, there were probably 4 or 5 versions for different makes and models and being air cleaners, not many paid any attention...they all look the same
