not sure if I should part out or sell together elelbrock 553 ford y block intake, and 3 97 Stromberg carbs. Or rebuild the carbs and clean it up?
    What would you do?

Personally, I would offer it as a package or all carbs together. But I wouldn't get stuck with one or two carbs.
If you have the means to detail all you would get a better price, rebuild carbs or what ever you area of expertise, after all your labor is free usually. But that's my take opinions are like, well you know

I have the experience to rebuild but wonder if it would be worth more left alone so someone could build and jet the carbs to their liking

Leave it be and sell. As said earlier. If separated, keep the kids together.

  7. I would clean it all up but not rebuild anything.
Shiny sells as does crabs that don’t look like they have been kicked around the shop for years
Linkages and throttle plates that move etc.
No dirt and cobwebs falling off it.

I would sell it as a complete set up.
If it does not sell in what ever time it takes you to get pissed off at looking at it, then sepperate the carbs and intake.

If they are a matched set of carbs, best bang for your buck is selling them together.
If they are not matched then piece them out.

Three juggers for specified engines (popular ones) always sell when 'glommed onto' by the enthusiast with that model engine...
M*** interest in Y blocks of late (last 15 years) makes this one a good candidate. (re: McTim!)
Best to do as Vandenplas advised, clean and working linkages, etc.

According to Y-Blocks.com this is a desirable intake, good luck with the sale.

Clean it up so it looks nice and sell it as is. Just tell the buyer that carbs are complete with all the correct internal parts but carbs needs rebuild as they have been sitting for a long time. When you claim the carbs have been rebuilt, it gives the impression that they are in good operable condition and will already run properly. Above all, tell the truth with no misleading info.

  14. I would offer it as is or freshened up and see what buyer takes a bite.

I just recently sold my big olds motor that way more or less. I took it down for inspection a couple of years back. I offered it in pieces or ***embled two different prices. The buyer asked if he could buy it ***embled but be there to help with the cleaning and ***embly. Of course I said , "Oh hell yea," and gave it to him at he un***embled price. Of course I am a pretty nice guy. LOL

As is would be my first way of advertising it. Let someone else be responsible for making them work

buy something with a Y block in it, and get it all working and put on the Y block, and drive it around and enjoy it.

Offenhausers should hang on the wall.. Worst of the 3-2 manifolds according the Ted Eaton who has dynoed them all on y-blocks... There is a guy in Texas who has made the work on Buick verticle valve V8's. I suspect he hole saws or mills straight down all 6 carb holes...

The 573 was built for the 57 312 with bigger intake ports. The 553 was for the 272-292 built first in 55. The 553 on a set of 312 heads would have good low end due the velocity of the bigger head ports to the slightly smaller intake ports when the valve first opens...all the Edelbrocks are better performers when compared to just about all the other brands of the era. Ted Eaton Balencing in Lleona Tx has all the information on his website.

Ted used the manifold in my picture to prove that. He’s done with it , I think. I’m going down to pick it up this Summer and hopefully maybe watch him make some pulls.

I think he even ported and polished it a little and couldn’t get good numbers.

As far as selling, I would offer the carbs together (As Is) let the buyer decide what to do as far as rebuild, and the same with the intake, i would leave them together until a buyer wants part or all then split it up and go from there, the more details and info you give the quicker and eaiser to sell. IMO. BigO

Well I agree with the clean the manifold up and clean the cobwebs off the carbs but don't get carried away and over clean them. Most rodders don't want to look at greasy parts unless they think they can get them cheap. On the other hand most of us would rather do the fine cleaning ourselves to end up with them the way we personally want them.
The shop that I take some of my machine work to has a "cold tank" for aluminum that they soak aluminum pieces in and then pressure wash them and they come out looking as close to what they looked originally out of the box as you can find. That would be more bucks invested that you might not want to spend just to try to get more out of it though. Oil eater, a scrub brush and a blast with the water hose is pretty cheap and easy and would get it to where someone could see exactly what they are looking at.
I'm wondering about the one carb not matching the other two, that might be a big issue to some guys and not that big of a deal to others. 3 that were perfect matches should stay together though.

Last year We were visiting with Karol Miller and he took me to meet Ted and take a tour of his "stuff". We watched a few pulls on manifold spacers. Ted is a great guy and a raft of knowledge.
