The first shot looks like one of Andy Granatelli's Hot Rod/Track Roadsters promotions in the Chicago area in the 1940s. He's standing in the photo. Could the driver be Rathmann?

The second is a nice color photo of Bill Cantrell pulling out of the pits at Indianapolis in (I think) 1949. Before the new pits and tower were built for 1957 it was common practice to start the cars in the Garage Area and drive them along a road to the far south end and enter the track without ever being in the pits. Driving back to the garages was allowed as well. Once the new pits were built cars could only being pushed around the Garage Area and had to be started in the pits before driving on to the track.

You're right that is Dick Rathmann in the car and AG on the left. I believe that is his brother Vince next to him. Probably one of his Hurricane Hot Rod races that he brought in west coast drivers like the Rathmann brothers, Pat Flaherty, Manny Ayulo and others to race in the Chicago area.

Great photos! It's nice to see the old movie theatre is still in operation. That's a heck of a turn out for the parade, four deep. I bet that's a cool town.
