Been snowed in all week, most snow we have seen since 1969, that was total of 47", this is only 1/3 of that, but living on a hill everything wants to side sideways. No electricity or internet except what I can get on cell phone with spotty signal. Wife is doing a bang up job cooking on the BBQ and we finished off the now soft ice cream. Filling the toilets with a 5 gal bucket, having dinner by candle light. I think I'll treat us to a motel, hot shower (which I really need, worked up a sweat cutting the 7 trees across the road) and dinner. 50 years ago worked at a Richfield station, the only chains were the boss's for his '59Olds, mounted up his 9.00x14 tires on my '57 Chevy and picked him up on my way to work. The purpose of my rambling was to show you what dad bought me for my tenth birthday. I dug it out of the folder, the back cover gone and it is well worn. The '29 roadster is still one of my favorites. March 1959 Hot Rod. 20190126_145756.jpg

Happy Birthday?! Your Dad was pretty Cool and saving it shows that you appreciated his gift (your Mom maybe not so much). Hope your present situation improves soon, Carp.

  3. How you guys that live with all the snow don't good mad, We rarely get snow but do tend to get freezing rain every now and then with fallen tree limbs and power lines along with ice covered roads that can last a couple of days and I get cabin fever during that short period.

Hope you make the best of your Birthday. HRP

Happy Birthday! Cool gift and that you still have it! We don't bother measuring how much snow we have, we just plow it out of our way and continue like well almost like it wasn't there.... lol

Aren't you glad you weren't stuck in that AMTRAK train near Oakridge for 36 hours, so close to home yet so far.
I've been through there on that train coming back from SoCal, beautiful country but not the same view for 36 hours.
    Happy birthday.

  7. Better than being stuck in a crowded elevator for 3 1/2 hours, I can assure you it gets small as time goes by, especially if you gotta pee. HRP

Redo32 I feel your pain. It's been pretty ugly on the east side of the Cascades recently too. Not getting ANY work done on hot rods. Too busy shoveling and plowing snow.

  9. We don't get near the amount as our neighbors up north or out west but have had our share. It's an adventure! A test of fortitude that brings to mind the days of old and self reliance...... and maybe some awesome stories that we can laugh at now but didn't seem so funny at the time.

Ok still working this...now I'm assuming that your dad bought you the magazine the day of your birthday...and it was your 10th one....so with today's date being March 1st....now the magazine is dated March 1959....so do you figure in the actual release date of the magazine or the date it hits the news stands....but then there's the mailing date also.....crap....anyways have a great day.....and that magazine is very cool... I'm missing 2or3 months from completing my Hot Rod Magazine collection of 1959 and thats one of them....enjoy ...I got to go...the sun is coming out...things to do...before it goes away.....

Happy Birthday, My cousin in Springfield was saying that most of the passes between your area and the Bend - Madras area were blocked right now.

Happy Birthday Red. I have a few years on you but they say you are only as old as you feel, somedays I'm fairly young and somedays I'm older than my time. Here on the flat land we have had more rain than we needed. Hope you get back to normal soon. Cheers, John

Happy birthday Red. My dad own and ran a Richfield Service station out in Lowell back in the 1950's. I think I have that copy of Hot Rod also. Nice to have the sun back today and the snow shrinking back. I had a new Corvette in 1969 when we had the big snow storm. I have a picture somewhere of it. Just a hump in the snow. It was almost completely covered.

Happy Birthday from another Oregonian ! The Cowboy Dinner Tree is awesome, worth the drive from anywhere ! We have a ton of snow here, but never lost power.

Hey!! Thanks everybody for your birthday wishes. It was a long drive through a lot of snow, but it was a great dinner. Google Cowboy Dinner Tree and see what I mean. I was too busy eating to take pictures. It also cured the cabin fever. Sure hope the power is on when we get home. Thanks again and rest assured the next shot of scotch is for you and then I'm going to soak in the hot tub. They chase the kids out at 10 and its adults all night.

  25. I just read this Saturday. I, too, turned 70 yesterday. They celebrate me by opening trout season on this date every year in Missouri. We got a break in the weather yesterday - no snow on the ground - still not above freezing and my 3/5-mile gravel driveway is a rutted quagmire. Another 4-6 inches of snow is forecast to start within the next four hours, but I'm glad we still got power. Hang in there. Lots of us around here have also lost power for days and days. Brutal winter, and we brought March in like a lion. .
