Can we get the delay removed to report SPAM posts please. Sure would be better for the forum. Presently you have to wait a minute after you report each Spam post.
The number spam posts is crazy on HAMB. I visit lots of other forums that don't get infiltrated like hamb does. Why is hamb so vulnerable to this?
I never had to wait, seems I have reported male enhancement threads back to back without a waiting period. HRP Probably has a lot to do with the volume of traffic here and the sheer numbers of members they can reach, spammers are a major PITA and even on the small site I administrate ('54 Ford Club of America) I deal with it every day. Ryan has the site set up where it is easy to join and that makes it easier for the spammers to infiltrate but unlike the small site '54 FCOA the members he can report it and they are removed rapidly, we don't have a report ****on. HRP
Spam on Ryan's other forum the Garage Journal is much the same but just on different topics. On that forum I deal with it but here the delay to report so many single spam posts can often take away the enjoyment of what this forum is all about.
Not sure if your Aliance Membership makes any difference but often when I see Spam I have a wait before I can report the next Spam post. If the Spammer has more than one post it is easy to deal with as you simply add in the report they have posted multiple times. Most Spammers appear to set up at the same time multiple log on names.
I doubt the Alliance Membership has anything to do with it, we are all equal members, just spit balling here but it may have something to do with us being on different continents & time zones. HRP
Well when I see more than one post I get a time delay to report the next spam post and that is why I started this topic as the faster you can report a post the faster it will be dealt with. Now as for the time difference Spam on the GJ forum comes mostly from Asia and that time zone fits in with Australia. So a wild guess given some of the names Spammers use I take it most of the Spam comes from similar places and only those removing the Spam here on the HAMB can confirm that.
If you try to make quick, multiple replies to a number of posts I think you'll run into something like a 30 second pause between each attempted reply. I always ***umed that this feature was incorporated to help discourage spammers that were attempting to post in the same manner. I think I've seen that behavior on other sites as well and I doubt it's uncommon.
Correct. I've zapped a report on one, went to the next pretty quick, then had to wait a few seconds, sometimes as long as 30 seconds, to reply to the next. No big deal, the spammers hit and then run, they seldom stick around long, as quick as they are reported I think their membership is flagged, then the mods nuke'em when they come on.
yeah. most of the spammers are from India that I see. when we spam ban them it automatically deletes all of their threads at the same time. so there is no real need to report each thread a spammer creates, just one is enough. 2 reports on the same thread give it a "soft delete" and it is no longer visible on the board. seems to me like most of the spamming occurs between 2-6 am or so..
I am not asking about the time to make a reply. I am asking about the time it takes to report them. Some times yes you can report one spammer has multiple posts but (sadly)that is not always the case. Most spammers over on the Garage Journal come from India, Vietnam, Indonesia or Malaysia. The time zone here relates to 6 pm to about 9 pm when I see Spam on both forums. It is rare on the HAMB to see multiple posts from a Spammer (different on the GJ) as most Spam on the HAMB are single posts and again this is why I asked if we can remove the delay to report Spam.
I actually ran a report a few weeks back to see where spam comes from... I'm not in the office right now, but it broke down something like this: 1. China. Something like 60% of all spam eventually came from a Chinese ISP. All of the VM, Malasian, etc... IP always seem to trace back to China eventually. 2. Romania. This is a traditional spam source that has declined big time in the last year. Not sure why. 3. Russia. For the past seven years or so, Russia has been responsible for the third most spam... And 90% of the time, it's political spam. 4. North Korea. Another big one that has spiked. You can only tell it's NK stuff because the IP eventually ends with the exact same block... 5. India. Historically, India is one of the biggest sources of spam... but it has declined a ton in the past year. Still, they are responsible for a ton of it even today.
Took a few minutes to report them twice but I just reported a few topics twice and can see they are not visible.
I am up late a lot of nights and I see a lot of spam after midnight central time zone. When I see them I do the report thing and then there is a 30 second time delay to make another report. No big deal as I wouldn't be on here if It wasn't for reading about Hot Rods. The 30 second thing is no big deal. After you make the second report that thread goes away, like I said that is no big deal as there is always something to read in the mean time. I don't believe the Alliance member has anything to do with this in this case.
Ryan may not have fully understood my request. Hooray. This will be great for the HAMB and getting rid of SPAM if you can change that delay.
Spam is a diet staple on Guam. Wouldn't believe how many flavors there are. All thanks to WW2 Uncle Sam....maybe this is payback!?
