Oh man!!! Brand new GI Joe's. They're still in the box. I remember the birthday I received my first GI Joe like it was yesterday 55 years ago.

All the pumps on the early A-F fire engines were mounted on the front of the chassies, but I don't think it interfeared with the radiator in any way...

This is for flyboy89. Fire Station #8.

I was born and raised two blocks from this LA County Fire Station. It was the closest fire station to where I lived. However, my street was the dividing line between LA City and LA County, and I lived in LA City. A fire on my side of the street brought the LAFD and across the street, a fire brought Station 8, from LACoFD. Station 8 has the distiction of having that red GMC (or Chevy, I can't recall) panel truck, known as "Rescue 8". A TV show was produced around that vehicle, called "Rescue 8", an action drama series about Los Angeles County Fire Department Rescue Squad 8. It premiered in 1958 and originally ran for two seasons with syndicated reruns continuing for almost a decade thereafter. This was long before the TV show "Emergency" was created (1972) with Squad 51.

The Engine 8 was a Seagrave, and the Aerial ladder Truck 8 was an American LaFrance (2-axle truck, not a tractor/trailer rig). About a mile or so to the west was LA County Fire Station #7, a single engine house.

Engine 7 was built by General Fire Apparatus. All around these two fire stations was LA City. The only patch of LA County in the area was the Sunset Strip, a mile or so of Santa Monica Blvd, and a single block where the Pan Pacific Auditorium was located. Other than the two engines (Engine 7 and 8) and the one ladder truck (truck 8), the County had no back-up if and when they had a major incident that required extra alarms. This was when the Mutual Aid Pact was first created between the City and the County, to assist each other in the event of large fires, and it still works great today.

Fire Station 8 is still in use today and has state-of-the art equipment. They now have two engines (Engine 8 and Engine 208) and Truck 8 (a hook & ladder, tractor/trailer rig) and Rescue 8.
