I was perusing The Ford Barn and I ran across a adverti*****t for a original 1932 Ford grille insert which is nothing out of the ordinary to see one being sold but the ad states it is stainless steel.

I am aware of aftermarket stainless inserts but I thought all the original inserts were the French Vanilla Grey from the factory. HRP

Does it specifically say the bars are stainless steel or just SS in general, I've read discussions before on this, always thought the frame was SS and the bars were as you stated.

I'm certainly not an expert but a lot of people incorrectly refer to chromed as "stainless".

Yup, the bars were painted from the factory.

The ad just called it a stainless grille and I automatically thought repro.

I went back and copied the photo and blew it up, the bars are not stainless, my bad. HRP

Yep, Pretty nice too and still on the first page of the "early V8" parts and pieces. Out of my price range to use on my 31 though.

In actuality I was right and wrong, Ford didn't make a all stainless insert but we know what happens when we read something and don't dig deeper.

Not the first time I have ever been wrong and I'm sure it will not be the last. HRP

The problem is crossing the border taxes, by the time they get their share you will be into it for a grand. HRP

Tell him you will pay $800 US all in. I bet he will take it. That's almost $1100 Cdn. I also doubt it will cost $200 to ship a grill from Winnipeg to SC. I just had a 1950 Merc bumper with irons shipped from NJ to Edmonton and that cost me less than $250 and it is way bigger and heavier and about 1000 miles farther.

  18. Shipping from Canada to the states and vice versa is easy but a pain with duties and taxes.
I’ve had a huge box of 53 Chevy side chrome shipped from the states and paid under a hundred bucks on duties
I have also had a small plastic trim piece shipped and paid over 100 bucks !!
Really no rhyme or reason to it.

    But HRP .... don’t blame Canada !!

Maybe you should have done some research before you posted on here about crossing the border taxes. I have many friends south of the border in the US and I buy, sell and trade vintage auto parts with them and others as well, all the time. I sent out a Stromberg 81 carburetor yesterday to California and there are a pair of original Riley 4 banger rockers and aluminum covers going out to Oregon today. There are no duties or taxes on vintage auto parts sent from Canada to US destinations. On all goods coming into Canada from US destinations there is a 13% tax on declared value of those same goods. Shipping rates in Canada are quite comparable to those in the US. None of them are cheap anymore. That 32 grille and shell would likely be $60 to $80 USD to ship and not $200. Be sure that the seller lists the contents of the package as "Vintage Auto Parts" and don't say it is a 1932 Ford grille shell. Keep everything somewhat vague and then there is much less chance of the package being opened up at the border. Why is it you think just because a vintage auto part is listed for sale in Canada that there are going to be all kinds of extra costs involved? Like I stated at the beginning of my post, maybe you should have done some research. Lots of good people and lots of good parts here in Canada. Why don't you take advantage of what we have to offer up here?

I read that ad and with my limited knowledge of 32 Fords I thought they were referring to the outer surround? I have a few with the one piece outer stainless frame and also have some with the stainless sort of pressed on.

Garney, The last time I sent parts top a fellow hamber in Canada a few years ago he told be the parts cost him over 200 bucks just for the privilege of getting them, with his reaction I figured the same would apply both ways.

If I ship something I will not lie or omit the value, I have shipped & received many parts around the world and have had a something of value lost in shipment, good thing I didn't try and hid anything.

If I need a original part I will buy it from South Africa or Canada, who has it makes no difference to me so don't get your drawers in a wad, I have a pal is looking for a original insert and I just saw this one and inquired about what I learn was a slight error on the sellers part about being stainless.

I have heard reverse horror story's of why Canadians shy away for buying cars across the border.

I have no malice against Canadians and if my comment was perceived as a slam I do apologize. HRP
