My friend had a 63 Chev Impala F/S, an ex Park Lane Motors car out of Sarnia, Ontario. The car had a set of headers that I have never seen on another stocker. The collector was right over the centreline of the front wheel. They looked cool and sounded great. The motor was built by Dynamic Engines in Detroit. It was at one time the Canadian Champion for F/Stock.

He lived on Storms Avenue and I lived on Summit Ave. , I remember the car very well. Used to watch them work on the car at night in the garage behind the house. Also saw it run at Englishtown, Island Dragway, etc. Do you have any pictures of the car? I had a few old Kodaks but can't find them . I think the car was maroon, black, and gold. Great

Ford Day :) Both posted by hemidav in the vintage thread

First shot of this green one I think with no lettering yet. I have posted it before with lettering.

Question for guys that might know-The green wagon belonged to Bob Boles from Illinois I think-I saw a YouTube video of it-He sold it-by chance did it go to the Goodson Bros. in North Carolina? There is a pic of the Goodson car on the '57 Ford website-I've always liked the 2 dr. wagons. Thanks Doug Schriener-This Jr. Stock thread is the greatest!!!!!!!!!!

Doug, the information in previous Junior Stock posts and a Google search suggests that the correct spelling for that racer is probably "Bob Bayles." Comparing the picture above with others taken after lettering confirms that it's the original "Sounds of Silence" wagon. Apparently, Bob has written a short book about the car and that book might have the answer to your question about what happened to it. I found a description of the book online <http://www.lulu.com/spotlight/bobbayles> but it's printed in German or Dutch and I'm not conversant in either language. Good luck in finding it.

There's an interesting back-story behind the Barkley/Illinois Shaker combination. It was a one-time thing at the U.S. Nationals in, I believe, 1968. John showed up at the race with his car but without an entry and Phil Cooper stepped out of his own car to provide John with a ride. At least that's the story that I heard.

Is that the car that was later driven by Karen Gaines? If so, it was at the Winternationals running in SS/QA in 1974. Phil Cooper was a respected racer in his own right and the car was very well-prepped.

I don't think so. Phil bought Gary Brocks car and later sold it to Gaines.
I have a picture of it some where as a SS.

I remember racing Karen Gaines for the class trophy in SS/QA at that race. I recall a connection between Gaines and Cooper. Thanks for clarifying that.

Paint job looks right. That could well be the car I raced against. That was 45 years ago and time has a way of blurring the distinctions.
