Stunning Caddy with chopped four-door roof, flared fenders.

Car has power widows, cut-down Chevy truck windshield for rear window.

  7. That chop makes the fins look gigantic. Beautiful chop though, my only thing I would be picky on is making some kind of bright trim for the rear window, looks a little odd with all the other chrome around the top and the back glass has just the rubber seal.

  18. Interestingly, the X-51 is the earliest example I have found of narrow whites on a kustom.

  19. Kool, a buddy called and said there was something in the new issue. Now to wait for it to hit the stands so i can snag some copies!

  20. Yeah it was about the first in the Portland area to run them, they didn't popular until about 61/62 in the area.

I was told 1958 is when skinny whites were introduced to the car industry.

  23. I know in 1957 it had wider white walls but not wide whites.

Pic is from 1957, by 58 it had the narrower white walls.

Watson was also running narrow whites as early as 1961.

I need some help with this one.
(Edited) There was a well known 1933 Ford PU, cream/white with scalloped fenders (maroon), that early on ran U.S. Royal Masters on chrome wires. It resurfaced many decades later, still sporting the same wheels and tires (having been wrapped and stored).
    Does anyone else remember this?

  25. This photo was taken of Ron Courtney and his X-51 at the 1957 Portland Roadster Show. It had the narrow whites on it then. From Kustomrama:

  26. I vaguely remember that. Did it have stacks?

Mmm... Maybe down the bed. I can't say for sure. I do seem to remember a Buick Nailhead (c. 1956?).
I know you would recognize it, as it got pretty good coverage.
