Hot Rods rear tires

I am wanting to put new wheels and tires on my hiboy. I now have 285-70x15 on the rear now. I would like to run something a little narrower and 16" diameter. I have looked at the Excellesior 16 tires, kinda pricey. I also have 8" wide rims. I have looked at light trucks, most the tread looks pretty aggressive. Anybody have any ideas?

Welcome to the " looking for some reasonably priced, round, relatively narrow, but tall and with a nice looking sidewall with a non directional normal looking tread, 16" tires for my hot rod" club.
Will be watching this thread.

 

The rear tire are for/from a electric (suv thing ) Toyota 16 tire
I payed like $92 new name brand tire, I'm out of town for few days so I can not give size , i think 30-31 inch tall
That why purchased , not scared of the electric only on tires , i have been 100mph on them .
On front are Excellesior to much $$

I built a couple deuce highboys with 235/85/R16 Michelin light truck tires, they have a mild tread and don't look like snow tires. They are the same size as a 750/16 and are affordable. I ran about 25 lbs of air.

 

I have 285 70 15s on my 55 Chevy, it is a 90's mini tub ride I built 25 years ago. My daily has 265 70 16 Michelins. they are a little shorter and I would say a good 2 inches narrower than the 285's. the thread pattern is very similar to the T/A's. Around here they are about 185.00 a pop. But Firestone and Cooper offer similar tires in the 130.00 range. And my truck runs an 8 inch rim. Larry

Might even change to, "somewhat reasonable"!

 

I put 165/80 r15 on front that are 25.4 tall and 6.5 wide on my 32 cabriolet
I put 235/75 r16 on rear that are 29.9 tall and 9.3 wide.
5 inch wheels on front, 6" wheels on rear.
Works for me.

Wow, AL, great price! What brand did you use? Did you order off that site?

 

235/85/16 = 31" tall got em on my 5 winder and my sedan delivery

 

The tires are made by Nenex and I got them from my regular Cooper tire shop and they mounted and balanced them. I actually took them home and installed them.
I believe the company comes up on the tiresize site.

Cooper didn't make both sizes so I decided to try another company but still from regular tire man.

You might try Diamondback Cl***ics. Ask for Rusty.
I believe they have some new 16" tires that are radials but look like bias ply. If memory serves me they are relatively skinny as well.

Look at the Auburn series and Cadillac Series tires first.

They did the red lines on the 32 sedan and I was very happy with them.

 

What brands.....The 5W sidewalls look smoother than the SD sidewalls.

These? If so, looks like they are all load range "E"! How stiff do they ride?

 

I run 18/20 lbs in em and they ride great. Have had them on the last 8 32's I've had. The 5 window and this roadster have been driven x country a few times with no issues

 

265/70/16 BFG's

 

I have yokohama ry215 15's on my sedan. Pretty sure they make them in 16's too. Not badly priced and by far the best looking radial for a hot rod in my opinion.
