Close enough mate, I'm just out the other side of Rushy at Moora. The Mrs works in Ky and I work in Tat.
I took the family to the Castlemaine swap meet on the weekend. I had already bought some rear brake drums and a clutch shaft lever to pick up there. I wanted to be able to move the frame around and not hit my head on the steering column. I saw this crusty wheel for free and grabbed it to use until I get my 40 wheel back from being leather bound.
Today Ace and I pulled the engine and trans. I’ve started on the trans, that way I can sort the pedals out and start on a master cylinder.
Love it. And raising the boys right. Wish I had that help growing up. See a mini bike & a 32 go kart type for play. What engine in mini 32? Be watch’en
Thank you. I wish I did too. The kids love it, Ace has he’s own tools and is a great help. The mini rod has a 5 hp Briggs and Stratton with a go cart clutch and sprocket set up. Motorcycles are a big part of our family, in fact we may sell the mini rod to fund another dirt bike for the kids.
I haven’t felt very productive lately, having worked 2 weeks of night shift. I’ve stripped the gearbox and found it to be in good condition, new bearings and minimal wear in the thrust washers. This morning I had a bit of time so i painted the case and some drums. The drums I picked up at the Castlemaine swap will replace the wire wheel drums and adapter rings I have on the rear.
It takes a bit but they are definitely available. Funny thing is I found RHD spindles then went side steer which makes RHD/LHD irrelevant.
Yes mine are cut. There was a nice set for sale on the Aussie hambers Facebook page a week ago for a good price.
I can’t find the add anymore either. I’m guessing they have sold because they were in good condition for $150.
I had a photo sent to me yesterday from my friend who does some leather work. A while ago we worked out a barter type deal. I gave him a wood turning lathe and in exchange he would wrap my steering wheel for me. I love the barter system I think it’s the best way for friends to trade. Leather has a softening and soulful appeal to me and will thicken up the rim of my wheel. I know this wheel is a bit rough but like a majority of the parts in this build it has its own special story. It was given to me by my father in law after I told him his tractor had an old ford steering wheel on it. So I really want to use it for what it is rather than what it could be.
Today I swapped out the 35/36 rear drums for the 40 drums. The 35/6 are a wire wheel drum and the 40 are a solid wheel drum. I was prepared to run the wire wheel drums with adapter rings until I noticed the pitting inside the hubs. But I feel a lot better knowing the wheels are mounting correctly on the flat surface they were designed to be on.
I got the trans back in the frame. The clutch lever I picked up from my mate at the Castlemaine swap seems to work with the stock pedal and linkage.
