Vintage shots from days gone by!

I'm aware that some of the buildings in the photos still stand despite "progress" and earthquakes but unfortunately not many.

 

I don't recognize the midget in the first shot. Judging from the sponsor name could this be a UMRA car?

And the second photo is really interesting. Wire wheeled car with what appears to be an early roll bar. Is Ernie Koch somehow involved with this car?
