Hot Rods So I may have found the guy who originally built my 40 as a hot rod in 1958.

I know his first name. I spoke to four different people there and got the same B.S story. If I knew Yugs real name that might help.

I told them I was just trying to find a little history on the car . I am not giving up going to try and talk to one of their drivers and see if they can get him to call me.

So I tried to find the guy I bought the car from in 1971. I found his name on the title and had my granddaughter help me search for it. I am not familiar with all this computer stuff. She was able to come up with 3 people with the same name in our area .one was listed as 71 one 47 and 23 . I figured father , son , and grandson. Couldn't find a phone number but the 47 year old was listed as the owner of Hoot and Holler barbecue. They had a web site for questions about their business so I sent him a message asking if his dad had possibly owned the 40 ford I bought in 71. He said his dad had talked about owning a 40 ford and pointed it out to him every time he seen it driving through town when he was a kid. But he didn't know if it was my car. I sent him a picture of my car. He said yes thats it. I said I would love to talk to your dad about the car. Turns out his dad had passed several years ago. He told me he asked his mom if his dad had to sell the 40 when he was born. She said no he had to sell his Mustang. He didn't know if his mom had any pictures. I am waiting to hear back from him. In the meantime I go to the Sandusky swap meet on sunday. I am telling my friend Gene Webb the story and he says why don't you just ask Don Mcann he was with Yug when he bought the car back in 1954 off a car lot in Avon Ohio. Gene said Don didn't even have a drivers license he was only 14. So now I am hoping to get in touch with Yug real soon.

  10. Like being stuck on a elevator, up, down, up, down, nang in there and don't give up, sooner or later you will solve the mystery and find the elusive Yug. HRP

Turns out his name is John Yug jr. I pull in to the driveway and him and his grandson are working on a project in the garage. At 82 years old he still gets around very good. I say do you recognize your old car. He says my old 40 was blue. I opened the drivers door and showed him the blue paint in the door jam that was still there from when I bought it. He said I be damed that is my old convert. We talked for over two hours. I asked if he had any pictures of the car when he built it. He said yes I do. We looked at the old pictures and then we went for a ride. Yug says man this brings back memories. He said it once had nash front seats that folded back that made it like a bed very nice at the drive in movies. I had a great time talking to him. He also showed me his club plaque from 1958. Here's a few pictures of his pictures some of them are sideways not sure how you straighten them out. More later.

40 see if you can get those pics and any more old hotrod pics Yug has and get them scanned straight as you can and put on a usb to share and hang on to for 1, its part of your rides provenance and 2, it is a way of preserving history that otherwise may end up in landfill...Wally World might even do it...or any office supply store or your tech savvy Grandkids...:D...

AND give Yug a Big Hello and Thank You from Us All...;)

The other reason is its easier for us to clean up digitally...But Hey I ain't complaining...

Yahoo! You have finally found treasure and kind enough to share it. What a thrill it must have been for all of you. I think it looks pretty good with those Buick lights and the skirts, how about you? Thanks, Carp.

  29. Great happy ending ! I can remember seeing your convert for many years throughout the mid-west. I've had my '40 Chevy convert for 40 years a couple months ago. I trade a '62 Vette for it in '79 so I've had a convert for 55 years now. The '62 was fresh when we did the trade and he didn't keep it long. I heard it went from Indiana to the south somewhere.

The '40 has been the best hot rod I've ever owned.
