Probably why nothing gets finished, I've been known to jump straight onto the next big idea when it hits me...ha ha ha

The clear made the red and white wrinkle too. I cleared the panel paint on my Henry J and it didn't wrinkle, wonder what the difference is ? 20190529_151309.jpg 20190529_151450.jpg

  4. here is one possibility
the un-hardened or one stage paint did not like being re softened by applying the clear over
how long before applying clear and how heavy/light were the coats of clear

Looks to me the time between coats wasn’t adhered to.
    Been there.

Rustoleum is some strange paint. I painted my bumpers with rattle can Rustoleum Sand color, followed the directions for multiple coats, and they looked great. About 3 months later, I did a little modifying on the bumper and needed a little touch up at several parts of the bumper. I used the same can from the original paint job. The touch up looked great until about 4 hours later when it started wrinkling, but only at one or two of the touched up places. The other places where I had touched up looked great. The only thing I can think of is that the area that wrinkled must have been either too cold when I tried the touch up, or the paint wasn't shook up enough.
I waited a couple of days, sanded the area where it was wrinkled and repainted it and it came out great.

I would kind of like to clear coat this truck painted with the Rustoleum, but I'm pretty nervous about the whole deal. Gene

3 days on white, 1 day on red, I sprayed the red and blue within 2 hrs of each other over the 2 day old white, blue wrinkled and red didn't.
I think the Henry J I cleared within minutes of spraying the yellow and orange and nothing. Screenshot_20190529-231109_Photobucket.jpg

You know come to think of it I cleared the sun in gloss, the moon in satin, I hand painted the werewolf so that was probably maybe next day after I fogged in the black over the white for the moon and no ill effects here either. Screenshot_20190529-231641_Photobucket.jpg

Do you remember what "auto clear" you used?

A lot of you are using spray cans, I wouldn’t do that. Go to Harbor Freight and buy a $15 spray gun, and use the stuff out of a quart cans. I’ve sprayed Rustolium with hardener and without, clear coat over the top and mixed 50/50 in the paint, used MS , reducer and even thinner mixed in, and have never had an issue. And of course I just brush on primer coats after thinning it, it’s just easier.

My son wanted to surprise me and clear coat with Rustoleum over the lace job on my 58 Biscayne. Instead it got turned into a Salvador Dali lace job, he was so gutted by what he had done I couldn’t even be angry with him.
