I went to the yearly June Fling in town yesterday. They always have a big car show. In the sea resto- mods, muscle cars, modern frame swaps and crybaby dolls..... There they were. There were several of them, several little Plymouth coupes and sedans, all running their flatheads. How refreshing!
don't forget the fake food on a drive in tray and some stuffed animals in the back seat to complete the look. the flat head six is a cool engine. I had one with all period race parts on it. I had it in a 40 dodge vc pick up. it ran 15.90 in the quarter. stock it ran 24.90 that wasn't too bad for what it was.
Nice to see 40's mopars finally being appreciated............I've had my Oz 1940 Dodge(note the Plymouth fenders, lights, hood & bumpers that the Oz cars got) since 1971, rodded since 1973 with a 318 poly, etc & still own.....also had a 41 Plymouth factory RHD ASC Coupe for a while...........andyd
I've owned a bunch of 39-50 Mopar cars. Not many still had the flathead, but a few managed to keep the motors while they were still at my place, those would have been the ones that would start and run. I think the only one we ever pulled a running flathead out of was my son's 47 Club Coupe. That flathead and its 3 speed went home with a restorer that was smiling ear to ear to be able to buy it for the $150 that my son had paid for the replacement 360 and its auto trans that went in it. My current 48 Plymouth was a rust bucket I saved from a crusher, not much original stuff was usable. I love this era of Mopar cars and trucks. Gene
