What a lot of people have forgotten or never knew was the “Gas Classes or Gassers” was started for people who had hot rodded or modified their car and they no longer fit in the established stock or other all out race classes. It was pretty common back then for people to drive their “gassers” to the strip and for that matter drive them everyday. In fact early on the gas classes had to have everything to make them street legal. It was only later that the gas classes evolved to pretty much all out, dedicated race cars that were trailered to the strip.
I am not ridiculing any one, my point is how cool is to see cars like this in vintage pics. you need to lighten up!
I'm no big boy but I'm enjoying the motorhome and A/C while waiting for first round. Not everything thats newer is bad. he he.
Remember watching the “High and Mighty” run at Detroit Dragway many times. Had a very distinctive sound noticeable to even a very young teen.
Never said any of it was bad. Only the subtle ridicule. Congratulations on your success. I was making a point that someone with a car like the one in the pic might not be up to todays elite standards, it was likely what (s)he liked and or could afford. Most cars (even homes) in those days didn't have AC. Now AC is standard and motorhomes are affordable a dime a dozen. ALL good things for everyone.
