The wife was with me at LARS this year. She decided she wants an old car. She works about a mile from home so it seemed like a fun idea. She found this 63 Dart GT hard top on offerup. I told her it was worth 3k. She tells the guy that the seat is ripped and it smells and she'll give him $2500. Runs like a damn sewing machine. What a clean machine! CA and the West in general preserves cars. Something like that around here would look like it came out of Truk Lagoon, usually. Original paint? Compared to some of the early 60's MOPAR styles, the Dart shows restraint. Sharp body style IMHO.

I don't want to Hi-Jack your thread, but we have a family friend who races AA/SA Max Wedges and has won the U.S. Nationals a couple times.
That car was absolutely not available with the 413, big blocks are a tight fit in those cars, it was the 62 darts they you could get them. They were a bigger car. Sent from my iPhone using H.A.M.B.

57 Fargo is right. '62 Darts were B body cars. '63 and later are A bodies. The A body Darts and Valiants didn't get the V/8 (273) until '64. However, with the '64-'66 A body V/8 motor mounts a 273, 318, 340, 360 will bolt in. I have seen 383's stuffed in pre '67 A bodies. One in particular he angle milled the exhaust manifolds a little to make it easier. After doing that he figured he could probably squeeze a 440 in. I have a 340 in my '62 Dodge Lancer with all factory mounts. Slight bend on the line from the master cylinder to keep away from exhaust manifold, moved battery tray forward a little, and on this version of the A body the heater box has to be removed. Drove it many winters with an ice s****er for the INSIDE of the windshield! A body V/8 rear ends will bolt in. V/8 front brakes, both drum and disc are bolt in items. '65 and earlier cars had push ****on transmissions and V/8 and 6 ******s don't interchange. Starters do though. '67 'and later crankshafts and torque converters had a larger alignment ****on. When attempting to use an early trans in the later engine all load falls on the flex plate alone and will soon rip apart. One could machine a sleeve to fill the gap if you really wanted to stay with the push ****on shifter. '65 used a shift lever but it was still a push ****on ******. '66 Dart column and shift lever will fit the earlier A bodies and work with the later ******s. BTW, the factory '64-'66 mounts work better than the after market mounts which set the engine a little differently. Trans mounts are the same 6 or 8. Of course, there is nothing wrong with the slant 6 and there are all kinds of hop up goodies for them. 2 1/4" exhaust all the way and a small 4 barrel carb and intake really wake them up. Milling the head helps in horses and fuel economy. Windage tray is real cheap horse power. Jeez, I'm rambling! Dave
