The Wife and I had a few days off and decided to Go to a National Park somewhere. Last Saturday [Aug 31] We picked Glacier National Park, Montana. Never heard of Kalispell before and were excited to go to somewhere new to Us! Flew from Los Angeles, rented a car and stayed at a really nice air bnb! What an awesome time We had! So Beautiful every day, put more than 400 miles on car and learned about these Buses that are still being used thanks to Ford for refurbishing 33 of them! The 'Road to the Sun' was exciting and many of these were running up and down! Interesting History! We also visited a Museum billed as the 'Smithsonian of the West'! A must to see as there is everything from the 1700's to present day! Amazing! IMG_1577.JPG IMG_1573.JPG IMG_1686.JPG IMG_1687.JPG IMG_1695.JPG IMG_1693.JPG

At the corner of Beach Blvd (Hwy 39) and La Palma, and admission was free back then.

Woody Gilmore designed Dragster chassis with independent front suspension. The front end is the outstanding feature of the car, and was fabricated from 4130 chrome moly steel tubing.

  25. Thanks swi66 for pic of Mobile Olds dealership. City of Mobile I'm guessing. Doesn't look like wall space for Mobile Oldsmobile, and sounds awkward anyways. Mobile OLDS better choice.

Any details on the first shot, Rootie?

The second photo is of the rarely seen Lagonda at Indianapolis in 1946. A Scottish driver named
Robert Arbuthnot (about whom I know nothing) apparently didn't get close to qualifying speed and missed the show.

    Thanks, Rootie!

That's Harold Leep with Red Lempelious' #52, both mainstays in the IMCA /central states in the 60s-70s.
There's some interesting history with the Lagonda. After Indy 46 Arbuthot was killed in a road accident and the car ended up owned by Dr. Ray Sabourin and driven by John Fitch in early U.S. road races. And as you know Sabourin went on to field various Champ cars in the 50s as the Chiropractic Spls. At one point the Lagonda was Hemi powered.
