1952-59 Ford Wanted: Automatic steering column 1955 Fairlane

Discussion in 'Off Topic Hot Rods & Customs' started by Rockabillykat666, Oct 8, 2019.

  1. I'm thinking of getting rid of the Lokar floor shifter and just going with an automatic column. I would love to get the whole setup with steering box and all. Mine is pieced together due to the failed Jeep power steering conversion a long time ago. anyone have anything? I realize shipping would be expensive. Also, anyone holding an extra steering wheel?
    Thanks guys!

In 1956 they went to the dished steering wheel so the column is probably about 3" shorter than a '55 that used a Flat wheel but if you also got the '56 wheel or a dished Grant wheel no problem or  if your tummy has gotten bigger over the years an extra 3" clearance might be just fine. ;)

Jeff, I have one out of a power steering car and another one from a manual steering car.

  5. I definitely want to keep it close to original, i am not a fan of aftermarket steering wheels. NewGuyOldFord, do you have the complete setup? including column, and steering box?

  6. Bringing this back up. I'm still looking for an automatic shift set up for a 1955 ford. Any of you guys have parts cars?

Norbert Doll in Glencoe Ok has a nice one. Steering wheel to sector. Shipping would not be cheap.

Guessing, shipping on a column may be $50-60.
