Winter is coming fast. Old man winter is knocking on our garage doors. For those of us that live with freezing temps in the winter, and don't have heated garages, now is the time to put your paint supplies and other stuff away. I have yet to install heat in my new garage so this weekend I will go through and relocate anything that cant be frozen. Get out your tattered and trusty coveralls and knit cap. If this coming winter will be anything like last year be prepared to hunker down for the long run. When my hands get cold my wife has me warm them between her legs. She often asks me if my ears are cold too.

    Hurry up!

I'm lucky... we live on a farm with barns and sheds for storage. The two and a half car attached garage is insulated, heated and finished. Only what has to be in there is in there.

So all of that is pretty much taken care of.

I'm just trying to get all my outside work done before it gets too cold, so I can hunker down in the garage this winter.

Build fence, two porches, steps and railings.
Paint fence, two porches, steps and railings.
    Weld broken brush hog
    Trim trees
    Modify an organize shed
    Move other shed
    Grade driveway
    Finish Zander's bicycle and tractor
Build shelves and bench for garage
    Whatever else I'm forgetting
Oh yeah... put up a couple new storm doors and seal up the house for the winter

THEN maybe I can work on my Chrysler?

  6. After this long hot summer & fall, I'm ready for cooler weather, last week we had a high of 98 degrees in October, that's nuts. HRP

Anybody out there got snow tires and chains for their hot rod? If so, you are one hard core son of a beach.

My home town in central Pennsylvania had 38 degrees on the newspaper website when I checked this morning. Meanwhile, here on the Gold Coast, yesterday's high at the shop was 111 degrees heat index. I'm still holding out for when I can work out there again without having the ambition baked out of me inside of fifteen minutes.

Sounds like what you really want is to be somewhere in the middle, between up north, and down south.

We are finally starting to see tolerable temperatures here in Yuma, AZ. It's still been almost 100 during the day but cools down to the 60s or 70s at night. Winter here means I can be in the garage or outside more.

Nothing to worry about guys, the whole globe is warm now. Up 0.1 degree in the past 30 years. Pretty sure Al Gore did it right after he invented the internet. Thanks Al.

3 inches of snow here since Friday. Of course, I didn't have the shop yard cleaned up from all the hurry up, hurry up summer projects. Got a reprieve, 40 degrees yesterday and didn't freeze last night, the snow is mostly gone now. 2 more days and I should be in pretty good shape around here. Snow usually doesn't stay until late October.

1ton, warm up those ears whenever you can.

Geesh we are still cutting our grass here…….

It was in the mid 70’s yesterday and supposed to be in the low 70’s today but cooling off to the low 50’s for highs later this week. Weather in the south is crazy and if you don’t like it just stick around because it will be changing.

Rain and 60* here today. Winter isn't what it used to be here in Da Mitten. Last winte I think we may have had 7 cold days (20* and colder) with maybe 2 really cold (below 0) days. I like the cold. I miss the winters of past with big snow and really cold temps.

8-10" fresh snow here Saturday on top of what we had previously! 1* above 0 & clear skies this am. I would sure like to trade temps with some of you guys for a while!

  24. It gets cold in Texas, too.
I don't remember what year it was, but this one time we had a cold spell and I had to keep the garage door shut for about a week.

Cut the grass here on Sunday, 3 inches of snow today!! Almost thought I’d put the Merc away for the winter a bit early, apparently not.

    Hello,

Well, that big storm is pelting the whole PNW + Alaska right now. Way down south in the L.A. region, everyone is planning on getting some rain by Friday night/ Saturday and it looks like the curve of the front is going to reach us. Storms are tracked and are close to prediction, but, they could arrive sooner than later.

The last time a big system was hitting the PNW, the comma shaped front was longer and added to some moisture from the South Pacific, belted So Cal with tons of rain and several days of no driving weather.

    Jnaki

So, as far as weather, it was 47 outside this morning and now it is 60. It definitely is sweatshirt weather, but still nice enough for shorts and sandals as normal for So Cal coastal attire. But, knowing how unpredictable mother nature can be, the weather pattern shows the big storm rolling across my weather screen and looks as if it may come down sooner. The sunny, blue sky is now getting its share of clouds and looking far off to the northwest, gloomy skies are approaching.

Buckle up, stay warm and dry… remember, the first sign of moisture on the roads is the worst. The oil sheen makes hydroplaning easy, even for tires with good tread. Stay off of the gas, let the car settle and the tires will hold you steady as you move forward, slowly. YRMV

In Minnesota and Wisconsin having a heated shop is a must, if you want to work on your cars in the winter. Can't imagine not having heat when I work on my cars, whatever the cost.

25-35 mph winds, snow and 30* right now. Been fortunate up til now. Very mild fall. Yes to heated shop. I’m very thankful to finally have one.

Surprisingly, so far no snow just outside Canada’s capital. Actually been “warm” for this time of the year with highs lately around 7C - 10C (44F - 50F). Garage is being heated so I can dry some cedar shake shingles I had to stain. Now got to finish the last of the bundle.
