  1. Another mid winter photo but this time the 41 Chevy truck off for suspension work, you get plenty of time to build during the winter, as long as you don't freeze first.

A rare warm first of March day, headed for an indoor show, 3 days later snow on the ground for the trip home.

I used one for years. Just make sure you get the car balanced right and they towed nicely. When I towed empty over a long distance I'd take the wheels off the front axle and it towed like a boat trailer, easier to reverse with the longer wheelbase. Just before loading I'd run existing wheels up onto some chocks I carried and put the other wheels back on.

This one was special. Channelled 9 inches. Used the chassis to build a forty pickup. Young guy, newly married, brought his wife with him from Florida to VA to pick up the body on Valentines Day! Body was in great shape as was the chassis from being indoors most of the time since 1962.

Double play day! Sold the pickup and the 47 coupe to some fellas in Washington state. Truck driver was a pal of guy that bought coupe. Truck guy called me about what else was a good buy in my area? Naturally, I just happened to be ready to send my pickup down the road and told him it was a great value... he agreed! The coupe ended up in some Bob Drake ads I believe... painted light blue.

Bought a collection of 35/36 Ford pickup parts and this was one load.
(Possibly the best $450 I ever spent- 3 cabs, 2 beds, 2 grills, a pile of front fenders and hoods, etc)

    65 Galaxie leaving my place.

I have lots of pics of my ever so slightly OT (1968) suburban towing all kinds of stuff but I’m afraid it’d draw attention from the HAMB police..

A former neighbor had one, 16' IIRC. Empty it rode rough, would bounce all over the road. Put a load on it and it went straight. One of the problems with it was the axles were too close to the rear, you had a lot of weight suspended between the tongue and axles. Another thing, when you went through a deep dip or over a speed bump, one axle would leave the ground, putting all the weight on the other one.

Not the best pic but from the mid 1960's, 90 mile tow to the drag strip. IMG_1017.JPG
