This is one of the cooler threads on the Hamb!! You nailed the conversion, so it looks like it was a stock car right from Ford. Not some cobbled up conversion that everyone says "must have started out as a station wagon".

When you slather bare metal with oil and let it soak in or rub it in can you truly ever expect to get adhesion with paint.........? I would think you could never get it clean enough to release all the oil from the pores.

...I could do one with the big window, but in my opinion the standard rear window "fits" the design.......actually in this sketch the rear window is smaller than a standard F-100 rear, but to my eye looks right....as does the one on this project..
Really cool job you’ve done here. Way nicer execution of the concept then the factory ever offered. For anyone who has ever hung a flat door in a house, door getting the hinges right is a pretty big deal.. Now adding all kinds of complicated curves and contours complicates the task exponentially.. The KISS method is the way to go.. Going through this build and watching the hinge comments I was thinking just make some covers and they will be simple, concealed aesthetically and more consistent with the rest of the body styling.. and then you did it.. That tailgate is a thing beauty with the curves fitting the totality of the overall sheetmetal sculpting.. I think a flat tailgate would look a bit out of place and kind of like a shortcut.. Well done..! The Ranger bed rails really fit the quarter panels well and give it a proper transition to a bed.. Love the clean simple lines..
The original Ute's were a cool idea but I think they were built more for function than design. Jake's build will have both.
I think it looks really, really good. I like that you are not "overly" customizing it.. more to the tune of a factory built. PROTOTYPE... you'll have lots of fun listening to the people who "know it all" suggesting that it was an original. There in lies a lot of fun..
Your cab has a nice flow into the bed, I've seen others where they have blown it and the build looks like ass.
Have not worked on it for a couple months. Got talked into too many paying Uph jobs. Just finished the last one this morning. Will get my shop cleaned up and rearranged this week and get back on the Ranchero. I’m anxious to get back on it. I’ll post any progress I make.
