Just got 8RT block back from machining. It may be sometime before I can start ***embly. I want to keep rust at bay and after solvent and soap and water cleaning I am thinking of dousing with WD40, both valve and crank gallery surfaces as well as inside water jackets. Will WD40 inside cooling p***ages cause future cooling problems?

No, just spray it down with some sort of aerosol lubricant. No ill effects to the cooling p***ages, but it will cause you grief if you plan on painting the outside and you coat it.

Wash with soap and water, spray down with WD40, then blow off with air. Do it in that sequence and you won't have flash rust. I don't think the WD40 in the water p***ages will hurt anything, it didn't in mine.

That’s exactly what we do with every engine we do

Depends on how long until you get to the motor, and how damp the environment is in which it is stored. WD-40 is pretty short term stuff for rust prevention on machined surfaces. At least it is around here where it came back white damp. If it's going to be sitting a long time, mix one part STP with 10 parts WD-40 and spray it on there. When the WD-40 evaporates and drys out, the STP will stay there and do the job forever.

  6. I agree.WD seems to go away after a while. Should be okay if you bag it up good and put it in the house..This'll cost you, but might be worth it in the long run.

Don't even wash it, just spray it down.

Marvel Mystery Oil spray-misted on the machined surfaces does a pretty good job.

Bag it and throw in some desiccant to keep it dry.

Gibbs is really good stuff. 'some guys' have reported BARE metal left outside with gibbs oil sprayed on it will still be shiny after a YEAR. I like it but never put it to this kinda test.

Just tell the wifey to go sleep on the couch and put it in the bed right next to you. You have to understand the correct priorities in life.
