Bill Thomas built the fast back cars. The tops were made out of fiberglass by a boat manufacturer. There were a small number of them put together mostly for racing applications..

And less known is the fact that they started out as road race cars.

  24. With all the cars that ran in these S/S and AFX classes where did a lot of these cars disappear too. If they won a lot or were backed by a dealer and made it big the cars seem to have been put away and show up now and then, what I always wonder about is where did they end up going, even in all other classes of drag racing. I understand that all cars couldn't be saved but if you look back at just how any cars were built too try and make it into the big times. Just a thought about all who helped build on the history of drag racing.

A lot of the afx cars were falling apart and had been hacked up so bad they were too bad to fix once they were done with them they went to the junkyards after they were stripped of all the good stuff and truthfully there were not a lot of them to begin with the afx era was basically less than 2 years long before the afx went away in favor of flopper body cars
