Someone had wrapped a cheap steering wheel wrap around my '57 Plymouth's wheel. I unwrapped it and thought I was gonna die. We restored it and painted it white, amazing how much better my garage smells now.
I didn't mind the smell at first...it was when I went to pick a healthy boog after driving in 100-degree heat that the smell started to bother me. Kinda like self-inflicted stink palm if you know what I mean.
All of mine have been repainted and cleared.......so maybe sealing them in something or just repainting them is enough to rid it of the smell? RF just open the vent window to face you and you'll never smell ANYTHING brewing in the car........such as PBR barf down the passenger door. xxx Brandy
bakelite smells like formaldehyde.... that's how you tell if its real bakelite... rub it till its warm then sniff...
Ew now that's true! I own lots of Bakelite stuff (I like to collect it) but MAN does it smell funky if it gets warm! RF open the passenger one and flick out the drivers! I wonder if you can clear that thing in clear after maybe rubbing down with a light acetone like nail polish remover? That way it doesn't eat into the plastic but might give the clear something to bite into? If all else fails pick your nose at home then stuff with toilet paper before you drive! Should look SO HOT! xxx Brandy
White vinegar kills mold and mildew as does chlorine bleach but the vinegar won't bleach the color... It might work or just add vinegar to the rotten milk/saw mill smell. That's waht it is, Bakelite is made from cellulose, so if it gets rotten it smells like you're down wind from a saw mill. Ever been down wind from a saw mill? Chev's of the 40's is down wind from one when the wind's blowing that way...
If I ever see any of you guys rub your nut drivers and sniff them, we won't be friends anymore... Its just a rule I have... JOE
I don't have a problem rubbing my nut driver...she usually rubs first. Plus, she smells sweet, so no problem there either...
You guys are just plain goofy. I'm full of useless info like the bakelite tidbit... ya have to know crap like that when you buy and sell vintage bakelite. I also know that the average penis size of a Lowland Gorilla is 3 inches... kinda sad ain't it... both that such a big critter has such a small winky and that I even know shit like this... (I know this crap thanks to my college studies in Phyiscal Anthropology and Primatology... and NO OTHER REASON!!!!) Such a good use of all those loans...
Heh eheh ehhehe hehhehehhh - you said "Bring this up again" hehhe hhehhe ehhehehhehhehh and you're talking about barf!!
Almost came up... "Chunky Style"...!!! But seriously... Will Sears exchange tools because they smell bad?????
I have a set of Xcelite drivers that smell like that. They are the only thing in my tools that have that odor. They still stink even tho they must be near 20 years old.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.....................................................................What a funny post.
I had a 79 chevy that smelled like crayon from the plastic rotting. It would get so strong in the summer that it would choke you. Kinda makes you wonder what the long term effects of these plastics are...
Check this link out. We just had this discussion on our board a couple days ago. Not so much about the smell, but about the actual process that causes it. http://www.autowonderland.ca/phpbb2/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=143
's funny......I got drunk and barfed the other night and it smelled just like my steering wheel Man, move the seat back - you're sitting too close to the steering wheel. In any event, aren't you supposed to be sniffing bicycle seats ???????
This old post was one of a kind. Funny shit. I'd try some of that enzyme solution that you can buy at the pet stores.
I knew this thread would self-destuct. Not much can survive the collective wit (or lack thereof) of the HAMB. Not surprisd several knew the answer either. Best of BOTH worlds!
First of all this is some funny fucken shit, second of all to stop the stench you have to either paint or clear the steering wheel, or both.
I have played with a few 78-81 Malibu "driver" projects. I don't know what it is, but some material used in the interior of those late-1970s GM cars smells AWFUL as it ages. Seems like they ALL start to stink.
