Features Model A roadster highboys on Model A frames

I find myself liking them more and more.

 

Whose car is this and what's the story with the windshield cover? That looks cool. Never seen that done before.

Might want to go look at some old hotrod magazines from the late 40s and 50s...

Not trying to argue, and don’t even want to, but it is definitely a trend lately. Yes I know it was done in the past, and mainly by those that just stripped the fenders off a car without removing the body to get the aprons off. Now they are being put back on, on purpose. To each his own, just not a fan.

 

The aprons were left on because you have to lift the body to remove them, everything else unbolts.

Remember, alot of the prewar cars racing at the lakes, weren't trailer queens.
They were driven on the street and subject to traffic/DOT laws.
Removing the splash apron would mean the fenders couldn't easily be put back on.
I recall Vic Edelbrock jr. talking about his dad driving up to the lake, after work on Fridays, unbolting the fenders, headlight bar and windshield, racing all weekend, then bolting everything back on and driving home.
And before the peanut gallery chimes in, I know Vic Sr. had a Deuce, not an A, but the point remains.

1928-1929 radiator cross-member mounts are about 1/4" higher than 1930-1931. So, early body/radiator on a later frame is easier than the other way around. A few shims will bring the early radiator up to later height.

Maybe in this case, someone knew part of the story, and over-corrected, raising a radiator that didn't need it.

66 special, Looks like your running a spring behind set up. Did you just lengthen the frame or is there a step also?

 

The frame has been lengthened and stepped. We cut the back off the original frame and then laid 3x2 tubing on top of the frame rails and ran it back so its only stepped the height of the frame rail.

 

66 how far did you have to extend the frame to do the spring behind,and what spring did you use?

 

16" Kelsey Hayes Rims
Tires are bias ply firestones, 600-16 front 650-16 rear. I should have just gotten 4 600 or 4 650's so I could rotate them, but <shrug>

 

19 inch Kelsey-hayes rear. 17 inch Kelsey-hayes for front. Put on in spring!!
