I believe Ryan only intervenes between two Alliance members. I have not been a member for a few years now and I should step up after the first of the year when I think the memberships roll over.

I might mess around with it just to have a spare or I might just sell it for parts. We'll see.

If you don't want to. I can always send my brother up from Connecticut, and get rid of it for you.

Koz, my time with flatheads was long ago, and I still love them, but just wanted a bit more "kick in my ass" for my last build(s) before I get too old to drive (now 82) but I know how hard flathead parts and pieces are to find now and I hope you don't actually do as you have threatened and scrap your remaining stash of flathead stuff. Describe it thoroughly and accurately and sell it for a fair price to those you sense are fair minded people.

Not meaning to imply threatening at all. I just don't feel the few bucks I would get for the stuff is worth the sale. I won't scrap any blocks or rebuildable cores and in fact I have already given a couple of guys a substantial amount of spares I had accumulated over the years. I pulled the heads. This is a 1500 mi. motor so there is some black in the bores and on the pistons but not much. It looks way better in person than on the pics. Also, the silver on the block is the aluminum sealant I use on my head gaskets. What looks like a chip in the first pic is actually a piece of paper towel I used to wipe the oil of the wall. I left it there for Steve to remove when he looks at the motor. There is no ridge whatsoever in any of the bores. The oil I put in the bores when the engine was stored in my shop since last summer. 001.JPG

Well Stephen, seems I can't heed my own advice, kids car blew a head gasket, after getting the heads off last week, tomorrow the engine and tranny are coming out for a winter project.

Engine was running fine before the headgasket let loose....sigh..

Just got back to N.H. from Pennsylvania. 13 hours of driving. Totally worth it. I couldn't be happier with this engine. Was every bit as clean as the pictures show. Actually it's cleaner. Can't wait to start putting it in. I'll keep everybody posted on the progress. Thanks again to @Koz and everybody else here on the HAMB.

One step closer to its new home. Hopefully can start pulling the old one this week. I'm going to start by taking off the carbs and rebuilding them. IMG_1702.jpg

I just sold the transmission. Thinking about what color to paint the engine. Anybody have some ideas. I like the red but I might go darker. I also might keep it black. I've got plenty of time to think about it. At some point I'm going to paint the body but I don't know what color yet. I have a few ideas. I know it won't be black though.

Hard to beat red, but maroon would be killer with the cream firewall.

I agree. I got the idea of going darker from this picture. flthd-offy-mat-1.jpg03aa82ab-a4f5-4bae-b85f-eb5db6f9f4dfOriginal.jpg

Had a similar experience when purchasing an Eaton Weatherhead hydraulic hose machine off Ebay. A**hole lived in Washington or Oregon....forget which. Anyway he made a POS crate out of junk wood. Machine was top heavy so along the 1800 mile journey, it beat the crate apart. I was having it delivered to a friends business address because he had a forklift. His employee didn't ask for any documentation of the damage and I got there just after the truck had left. This was a $2000 purchase with shipping included in the price. I took pictures of the unit on the pallet with the crate broken apart sitting in the friends parking lot. I called and found a manufacturer supplier that would sell me the damaged parts and ship them to me for less than a hundred dollars. I would replace them for free. Sent an "nice"email to the guy and he immediately went into a**hole mode. Claimed the thing probably got damaged while picking it up with the forklift, backing up 10 feet on a flat parking lot, and sitting it down. Refused to do anything and wouldn't answer my emails.
I was more pissed about him than the damage. Contacted Ebay/Paypal . They checked my account, read my "nice" emails and told me to go get a professional estimate for repairs. Found a local shop that was willing to help me. They wrote an estimate that was about $350. Paypal told me that their policy was that anything over $700 (or so) was not handled on a partial basis so the seller was required to refund my money. They gave him two weeks to respond. I told him all I really wanted was $100.....still no response. Contacted Paypal two weeks later and they said they would refund my full purchase price and deal with the a**hole themselves. I told them that was fine but he would have to pay for the return shipping. They said "you don't understand", you are under no obligation to return the item, we don't care what you do with it....and we will deal with the seller ourselves. Sent seller another email offering it back to him for shipping costs.....got no reply.
The guys that gave me the estimate were very friendly and helpful. They wouldn't take any money for giving me the estimate although I know they spent at least an hour listening to me whine and making my estimate. After I got my settlement from Paypal I put $60 in an envelope (1 hr labor). I also noticed the guy who made the estimate was a Ray Stevens fan and had an old 8 track tape. Bought a new DVD and stuck it in the envelope too. Dropped by one afternoon and thanked them again and told them about my luck. Gave them the envelope and told em to get lunch for everyone and left before they could refuse. You remember Ray Stevens ......don't you?
The point here is that if you use Paypal to make these long distance purchases, you have someone to help you when there is a problem. I don't know what they did about a**hole or whether they just wrote it off, they wouldn't say...but they did say they had ways to deal with him.
I know this doesn't help with car purchases, but it does help with parts. One last thing. Some sellers like to say "No returns". That doesn't apply if they send you something that doesn't work or is not "as advertised".....but thats another story.

That's a drag. I'm glad you got your money back. I love PayPal. I also saw a streaker when I was a kid working at New England Dragway. Those were different times when people didn't need a "hug room" for when they got offended. Now if that streaker got caught he'd have to register as a sex offender along with the guy caught for pissing behind a dumpster. I remember that song too as a kid and the Chuck Berry song "My Ding-a-Ling. LOL

    Sold the transmission?

No, no, it don't work like that. You BUY early Ford parts, not sell 'em. ;)

Don't worry it went to a really good home. I'd rather see it get used than sit in my garage. It was cool though.

Man I hope nobody drops any of this stuff off a forklift....... LOL! I used to have a Paypal account but a lot of guys don't like it because they have to pay a fee. I do a load of deals on both the HAMB and Fordbarn along with FB but lately I've gotten much more careful and will walk away from stuff I really want if I get a bad feeling. I've only had two or three deals that didn't work out for me on the HAMB which is really pretty good considering the amount of stuff I've bought and sold on here. I'm looking at the heads as he may well have needed the money way more than I do so it is what it is.

Some years back a fellow sold me some stuff on here and it dragged on forever never arriving. I was pretty upset and after a bit I had my Desk Sergeant give him a call in a semi professional capacity. The guys girl friend answered and explained the guy was in the can for non support. She promised he would make good as soon as he got out, which he did. I have more respect for him than a dozen bull shitters complaining about him. I can't remember his handle on here but I know he has been banned for years now.

If you have ever been inside a freight shipping terminal when they open the rear doors on a semi-trailer, you are aware of the fact that you can't read the word "Fragile" when its under a ton of other stuff, and "Handle with Care" is more like daring the forklift driver to do a 360 with the pallet on his forks. If you ship anything by freight get insurance. They can break anything........absolutely anything. Remind me to tell you sometime about the 80 Gallon compressor they flopped ..........

Maybe PayPal should work for free. Oh yeah then there would be no PayPal. I have people come to my shop and I don't take credit cards so I send them across the street to an ATM. They drive a mile away to their bank because they don't want to get charged 3 bucks at the ATM. Cheap pricks. Having PayPal go after someone who rips you off is totally worth the fee.

It was slow at work today so I left and did a little work on my car. I took of my carbs and was surprised to see two of them blocked off. I knew my linkage wasn't set up correctly and they were running pretty rich. Come to find out only the center carb was running rich. I'll be rebuilding them and setting them up so they all work. I don't understand having 3 carbs and not using them all. WTF! Here's a couple pics. IMG_1713.jpg IMG_1714.jpg
