Update. Car is being worked on, Dad is hanging in there with the new experimental cancer drug. Still hoping to make deuce days in Victoria BC but worst case should be driving it by September. Still trying to gather all the parts. I really appreciate all the advice it is a long ways from the 350 chevy with a auto transmission street rod that my Dad was going to build. Bought a 30's ford banjo steering wheel for it that I will use some HAMB advice to rebuild. current.PNG

I can tell you it hasn't left the shop where it's being worked on. Last time I was there the new floor is done and it's beautiful. And work progresses. It's in good hands.

  7. Ken, I just found your thread here - what a great opportunity you have! I’m glad you slowed down and took the time to listen to all the great advice from HAMBers who have posted. Some of these guys have built amazing traditional cars and have been doing so for decades. I’m of the opinion you should change as little as necessary to keep the original vision but build it to your tastes at the same time. I’m looking forward to seeing how this turns out.

@Ken The Coug any updates you could share? Seeing that last picture with the ford wheels and whitewalls holy smokes looks really good!

Thought I would post an update, the car is slowly moving forward. Dad and I did make it to Deuce Day's 2019 and were able to have a great time and see hundreds of great cars. I wish we could have finished his in time but we did find some rust issues and most the interior wood was dry rotted. Dad's cancer came out of remission just after our trip and he battled it through the fall but we lost him at the end of January. I am so grateful that this car brought him and I much closer together and I was able to learn so much more about him. I have been taking lots of photos but have been waiting to post the process until we are a little closer to being finished. During this whole process I decided I needed a bigger garage/man cave and we moved in December. Of course Covid threw a wrench in everything for awhile but we are making steady progress now. This week has been reconstructing the original dash, the new instrument cluster would not fit with the original opening, and was too big to fit beside the glove box so we have had to be creative. I figured out how not to make a new glove box door as well. Stay safe, I hope to post photos soon.

There's nothing wrong with Pontiac power.

Glad you got the time together you had.
    Keep at it.
I'm sure he will be watching.

It's always sad to loose your pops. Like others do I still "talk" to him in my mind almost everyday.

  18. Sorry about your dad. So good y'all had the time together and the car to bond over.

Banjo wheel side.jpg steering wheel 1st Pic.jpg steering wheel.jpg horn button.PNG Need some advice on a good horn button. I bought an old banjo steering wheel and I am working on restoring it. I have what I thought was the correct one but it doesn't look to fit right. Any ideas or photos would be helpful.

One of the previous pictures showed the car sitting on some white walls and rims but they were not mine. This is the test fitting of the actual tires and wheels. This picture was taken awhile ago. New tires.PNG The trunk had never been attached to the car, it just sat in there. Now the hinges have been installed. The original idea was an electric trunk latch, but we went back to a mechanical, I found a original 37 handle which I prefer to the 32. I love the imbedded V8 in it. Trunk handle.jpg

Ditto on the nice job restoring the wheel. My 40 Ford coupe wheel has a crack that has developed since I bought it a few years ago, and I could use some restoration info.

Here’s a 38-39 Ford banjo wheel, the bottom matches the flare of the column. Your horn center is a 35-36, the bottom of wheel is different than mine so I’d guess it’s a 35-36 so it should be right.[IMG][IMG]

Nice work on the wheel. Are you sure it is a Ford? It looks like a Triumph to me.

I think it is an aftermarket 35-36 banjo wheel from the period, the bottom looks different than the Ford one but it looks like ford keyed shaft

What goes there is a second set of dovetails, just like the ones that are below the latches.
