Hi guys just wondering about this knocking noise I started hearing as we were driving along , it started getting worse as I drove ..I checked fuel pump pushrod and removed it the noise is still there as I’m running an electric pump , I have oil pressure and oil .. if you guys have any ideas before I start pulling it apart as what the problem could be , it would be much appreciated..it’s a 239 8BA V8 .. I also have a video but don’t seem to be able to post it.. Sent from my iPhone using H.A.M.B.
After looking for loose stuff like what you already have done.......Some other checks are flywheel bolts....... pipes rubbing...exhaust leaks.....mount bolts ....stuff like that. The best practice would be to check the main and rod bearings with a mash gauge. This may mean pulling the engine. It would be better to check this now while it's repairable than wait and have catastrophic failure later. Unfortunately I have learned if a Ford is making a noise.....there's something really wrong with it. The exception may be an FE. Those jokers click and clack and ping and pong and still go.
If you think it's internal to the engine, pull a plug wire off a cylinder one at a time, and see if it goes away.
Just tried that , pulled p***enger side rear closest to firewall off , seems like it improved at higher rpm but still knocked at idle.. Sent from my iPhone using H.A.M.B.
Some suggestions, drain oil and look for silver sheen or flakes in oil, cut oil filter apart/inspect, if yes, pull engine apart. Take a rubber hose 1/2 dia id and long enough to reach engine, place at pan rail and pan and listen, also around intake. Other side of coin, put thick oil in it, baby it, might run a long time before failure/pieces. Cheaper to fix before pieces.
