  4. Engine pinstriped and swung into the frame for some more mockup.
I’ve got a really good video of the striping but it seems it’s too big to load on here.

The backing plates are all old chrome, cleaned up painted white and stripped gold.
Also to these old 50 Pontiac tail lights and Hollywood license plate light.[IMG]

    Hell yes Des.
Let’s dilute the Aussie street rod scene!
I like your joke about taking your time and not pushing to get this done.... You only have one speed.

Post your videos to YouTube then post the link here.

  6. Channel mock up time.

My buddy Librio lives around the corner and we help each other out and share tools and gear. He was around and I was close enough to do some mock u channel, I had neatly removed the sub rails, and trimmed the fire wall for the channel, I started at 5 inches but we didn’t like it so went 6.
It had to have a big channel and no chop.
I like the goofy east coast style.

This is all mock up remember so the proportions get refined over work, but I had to see some kind of HOT ROD!!!!

  7. Having it roughly mocked up I though it would rule to chop the grill shell.
Taking inspiration from those short little tucked up chopped grill shells like Fred Steele’s roadster.

I started buy cutting it and overlapping it and tAping it together to get. Rough idea of height but settled on 4 inch chop.

  8. Made some engine mounts, wanted neat but not too crazy.
    I think I achieved that.

  9. With the engine sitting on engine mounts and centered I shortened the 36 torque tube, and had the gearbox sitting on some temp mounts.[IMG][IMG]

With the grill chopped and sitting roughly at the height I wanted i thought I could mount my headlights properly.
These little things make me happy [IMG][IMG]

  10. Steering box mock up, now the only modern not early ford part I’ve used and it’s due to wanting this thing engineered and legal on Australian roads so it’s a 70’s Holden steering box, basically a Vega box but right hand drive and I had right hand drive round back spindles and old chrome 40 column and wheel.[IMG][IMG][IMG]

  11. Clean up day, roll out and check how it’s looking in this mocked up form. A couple of photos with Frankie.

  13. Scored some more old chrome parts locally.
Neat bent 39 old chrome shifter that must have been in a channeled car here.
And my buddy is chopping a 30 model coupe and we agreed on a trade plus cash for the old, cleaned up great.[IMG][IMG] [IMG]chrome garnish moulds.

  14. Got these rad stock old chrome f-1 shock mounts, want to use them so I mount them like this and key to hang down under the frame a little and make tabs on the wishbone for the bottom of shocks later. Also, Australia it’s law to have fenders, not that we do All the time but east coast hot rods had fenders and I wanted to do them to plus I’ll need them for registration on the road so cut some 36 spare wheel covers in half.

  15. F-1 gearbox Criss member.
I got this of Ben D while having a could beers at Owens salvage while driving 14 aussies from LA to Austin for the roundup, I couldn’t pass it up.
I coulda made something but I really thought it would be neat to stick with the period stuff. So I did and I’m stoked.
I trimmed it, welded it, added gussets with threaded bungs for the right hand side f-1 one pedal mounts and used a 70’s ford duel circuit master cylinder off an XB Falcon.

Nice build, I like the style you are going for. Looks like you've done this many times before.

I’d like to say I’m some sort of pro. But truthfully I got told the same thing last week when trying to post a video of my flathead running.

How cool is it to look back on and realise the comet was still not on the road then?

Cool - this is like watching one of the car builder TV shows - your Frankie is doing a good job supervising you

  25. With the grill shell and passenger door done I decided to fully prep them, the grill is obviously a lot easier than the door, the door takes a hole lot of wire wheeling and sanding them de-ox.

Because I’m one man trying to get this shit done at home I find it best to get something finished and into epoxy so it can sit there for a while and ready to sand and filler work in the future.
Remembering this car is supposed to be good enough not perfect, I can’t reach perfect and I wanna drive the hell outta this thing.

I hammered the door and grill as best I could, same with the drivers door I’d done a while back.
Once these had sat for a few days I decided to off load them to a mate to hit them around a little more and get them into filler and high build primer to try speed things up ( I find it hard to let go of control and send stuff out for others to do) so here goes haha.

Love East Coast style and coupes, although I built mine as a roadster to suit Queensland weather.
Would like to get back to Castlemaine someday and check it all out. Roadster 3 (Medium).jpg
